Hyeres Almanarre suggestions!

Postby gvironda » Tue Apr 23, 2013 8:15 am

Hi guys
I am planning some days in Hyeres, and I've seen the wind will be mostly from east, totally off shore
Do you have any suggestions on places different than Almanarre, where it could be on shore - side on?
Thanks
Beppe

Pampelonne beach at St. Tropez. Gets waves also on easterly winds. Port Grimaud in the St. Tropez bay. St. Aygulf close to Saint Raphael.

Thanks Dirk! I guess they could be "closed" in summer but probably now they are still open
Thanks a lot!

St Aygulf also has a kite zone all year round.

I live near Hyeres and ride at Almanarre beach.
The wind mainly blow west or east so you can choose between offshore or onshore.

The video was 1 month ago, offshore.

Amazing video. And great jumps!
I was there one motnh ago and I loved it
It was over 30knots from west, and I was impressed how small, in any case, were the waves
Unfortunately looks like it's gonna be raining for the weekend :-(

I spent a month in that area, summer 2011...a very beautful place, and great kite potential. I did a set of lessons on the east side of Presqu'ils de Giens, where wind was offshore -- boat launch. There were over a hundred kites flying on the west side, with onshore winds. One guy told me there's been some bad accidents there with beginners, getting dragged onto the road.

Anyways, seems doable if you know what you're doing. Or can pay the kite school guy (Manu, Airxkite) to boat launch you on the other side, and pick you up at end of session. Executive style launch.

I very much hope to get back there someday, now that I can kite and explore it properly.

We were staying right near St Aygulf....yes, a dedicated kite launch area there. Right next to the "naturaliste" beach, where my pre-teen daughters were quite disgusted by what was on display.
