Flysurfer Speed 4 8 in european waves

Postby haiku » Sat May 04, 2013 9:16 am

Hi folks. Freeride wave kite, this might be one of the definition for the new Flysurfer Speed 4 8 Standard Edition. Of course, it is very different from other dedicated wave kites like Ozone Reo, RRD Religion, Naish Park and so on, but in the first sessions I had in small to medium waves (and mostly in medium winds) It has showed a very good turning ability and no back stall at all maintaining, at the same time, all the best quality of Flysurfer Speed’s. The short video below shows an unusual environment for a foil kite! Check It out.
Cheers
Carlo

7:25 -7:35?!

Looks like the kite is flying in a wide powerful arc but gets around quick. Are you pulling the bar in all the way or would it turn in a more tight circle if you cranked it harder? Also, the go-pro wide angle makes the perspective difficult. How high was the jump and how low was the kite?

Also, there are not a lot of whitecaps, not what I could call typical 8m conditions!

Thanks for the vid.

Hi. For this video I used a mix of digicam, like Go Pro 2, Muvi Veho NPNG and Sony action cam; especially in waves I think that the best angle of view is when the board is properly showed. The kite turns very fast and, as I said, has a very good low end for its size probably one meter more than a pump of the same size. In the other hands the upper end is not sacrified and until now I flew the Speed without any problems in over 35 Knots. The turning is direct and responsive even when depowered. Lift is excellent but where this kite shines is for the incredible glide after a jump in high wind. Looping the Speed 4 is quite simple but requires full commitment especially when the kite is straight in front of the rider.
The video has been realized in four sessions with 25 Knots wind (average 16/18).
Cheers
Carlo

Tell us more about this :D
Over 35 with gusts or some thermal wind?
How much do you weight? Board size used?

Hi. In my home spot (Latina beach, center of Italy) the thermal wind blows from 12 to 20 Knots and is called "ponente" (west). The best season for sea breeze is spring and sometimes summer. Low pressure systems can generate stronger wind and great swell and this was just the case of the session I had in over 35 Knots. My weight is 74 Kilos and I rode the hawaiian custom Kazuma Shibi 5,4 and the twin tip Flyradical M 2013. Needless to say during this season I wear a fullsuit. The Speed 4 8 has a great low end and a very good bar feeling. Sheeting all the way out simply means kill the kite. Depower is huge and therefore control in high wind not an issue :thumb: .
Cheers

Sure but is rather see the kite working in the air and make my own judgements on its flying characteristics.

My speed 4 10m has been my one kite quiver for the winter but I have to say that I ride it more and more on the water. I like the float and the range.

The range is really awesome. Great lowend, great high end also. Speed is ok but you have to put more effort when you want it to loop fast. Bar pressure is also higher than the speed 3.

I just got my new fish and i will try it with the speed to see how it goes.

Nice clips, thanks.

I'm thinking of getting an 8m2, and was curious if it will still feel comfortable in winds gusting over 35 knots with my weight (90 kg). This pretty much answered it.

Hi. Zob, I rode in 35 Knots with powerful gusts and I never felt the kite out of control. Like Jumarcil said the Speed 4 has an awesome range.
Cheers
