When guys says back and forth it usually means they have read that somewhere else or somone told them that or if they have tried it they have only done that...
Mostly has to do with not knowing.
I've do more than back and forth all the time in super light...
In this wind no other kites are even going upwind.

Basically it's keeping the same power in lighter winds...
Use your body and some pop and power from the kite for some good fun.
So many of us are doing it here... Just sold another Flyrace (Go Anywhere Freeride Board) to a very good... experienced kiter that I look forward to seeing him rock it this summer.

2:09 Front Rolls.
2:18 Jump
2:27 Darkside Slide
2:32 Jump
2:35 Front Roll
2:43 Darkside

The Magic Continues... Lightwind Summer coming again as usual.... for us.
To Kite or not to Kite.

Depends on your level though, eh? If all you can do is ride back'n'forth and some basic freestyle, then you'll be happy with the sessions the big foils save :)

RE: Flysurfer Turning Speed...
Speed 3 12m is about the power of a 14-15m sle or so Inflatable to keep in mind...
Rare to find a turning speed video so here I have one....

Other kites in this vid are 16m 17m green (Background) and a customer on 19m...
Turning speed is also a style of riding not everyone turns a kite fast or wants to.
So it's a Choice...

But sure as kites get bigger (of all kinds) they turn slow but the alternative is to use your board and body for pop and power. As well the other alternative is to ride under powered riding back and forth on a smaller kite or in many cases we see here heading down wind and then walking up and putting the kite in the bag.

In 10 MPH I can mow the lawn, edge, trim the bushes and Carve the Lawn upwind. What's not fun about that?

And I weigh 245 PIES!

I'm 150 and on 10-12m in 10mph with power... jumping and tricks, you'd be on 21m....
Fin Acts as +5m or so Kite Size

I've had three days this week, of great light wind sessions on my S3 21 and Flydoor XL. I just discovered how much fun double and triple rotations are! If I can get upwind just a bit, I can jump enough to play silly buggers - it's not mowing the lawn.

I don't think the lake wind was too magical. And I got your 245 beat ;)

Oh and last night, I wish I had a video camera - kite was flying in ZERO wind :D the flags on the beach were totally limp, no flutter in the canopy of parked kite but the Flysurfer was sitting at zenith quite happily :D the claims I could make with that

+245 Kami! Wa Whoooo!!!

I could see how the Fly race Big Fin could give lots of Lift. Maybe more than a Quad Surf?

How much more low end than a Monster Door or the Flydoor XL?

Lots more than a Monster Door....
Get this I can lots more upwind on my 12m and Flyrace when a Customer is on a Monster Door and 21m...
About same weight..!
Works great as it is but we do jumps and tricks and so on... with it... ride it hard...
I make a custom set up for using it to jump with and tricks for customers...

More than a Quad fin Surfboard... but I think much more fun all round... Retract fin when windy... blast upwind with it down!

Oh and the Fin is super efficient since it's an asymmetrical foil shape. Flatter on one side...

Better tan XL too Look at the Fin! And cool thing it's retractable...!
Take a bit of getting used to... not for pure beginners... Customers get on it the following year though....
