Yes move around - just depends how much you like packing/unpacking :D
A good (for me) plan would be Golfinho for a few nights (they will collect you at the airport) then on to Rede Beach, and then back to Itaco or Villa Gale for a few (more luxurious) nights on the way back to Fortaleza.

If you have an experienced driver, s/he can make the trip from Cumbuco to Jeri in 4 hours (and that is with exceeding the speed limit constantly).
Also take into consideration that ~40Km of the drive is off-road with heaps of bumps. Dunno if that makes your pregnant wife happy (getting chucked around in the car for almost an hour)? :-?

If you really want to drive around, my suggestion is to use Cumbuco as a base, hire a small car and do daily trips to Icarai, Cauipe, Taiba, Paracuru (you drive there in a few minutes up to less than 1 hour) or to Flecheiras, Guajiru, Ilha Do Guajiru etc where you drive to in less than 2 hours.

Cheers

Agree with Toby and Caesar.

We have been to Jeri twice, and for us it is a great place for cafes, restuarants and ambiance but overrated for kiting, is also a long boring drive :o

Flights are all booked, just trying to make a final decision of where to stay.
Narrowed it down to:
Windtown, Cumbuco
Rede Beach, Guajiru
Wind Village, Ilha do Guajiru

Rede Beach looks really nice, but I havn't seen many reviews on the actual kiting.
Anyone know how it is? (waves? flat water access? downwinders?)

thanks,
Mark

Here's the only pic I have sort of showing the beach and sea state from Rede hotel, have plenty pics but are all happy shots - is pretty much what most of the coast looks like with the ususal beach break. Can't recall but am sure there was rocks in front at low tide.
You will miss out if you do not spend a couple of nights at the Golfinho in Cumbuco and a one day visit to Paracaru, at low tide - but for sure you will enjoy Brazil! :bye:

Haven't kited at Guajiru myself, but heard mostly good stories. I've heard the hotel is immaculate and it's right on the ocean so great for ocean kiting. Not sure how the waves are as the best waves are in Paracuru but I imagine the waves are OK enough. Pretty sure downwinders could be organized as most kite-centric hotels offer something like that, but you probably have to do that on the spot. Only not-so-positive things I've heard had to do with 'other things to do' as I understand there is not much else there besides the hotel.

If you want to split your time with a flatwater spot I recommend a visit to Ilha do Guajiru; all the flat water you want and plenty of space and 10 meters off the water. Also there organizing downwinders etc wouldn't be a problem (I could hook you up there)

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I've gone and come back to Brazil, and it was incredible!

Thank you everyone a ton for your advice.
Here's what I ended up doing:
3 days in Rio to see the typical sights
5 nights in Cumbuco (Duro Beach)
5 nights in Rede Beach
1 more night in Cumbuco on the way back to Fortaleza (Windtown)

First in Duro Beach, it was a perfect start.
Very affordable, comfortable and kited everyday with downwinders to the lagoon and waves at Pecem. Duro beach is the perfect location with some of the best kiting right out front. It was great kiting with some top guys, really pushed me to try some new stuff and started landing my back mobes consistent, felt great. My wife was comfy and had no complaints chillin in the pool reading her book. Restaurants in town are good. I wouldn't say outstanding, but nice to have some variety.

Next, Rede beach was perfect!! Much nicer, more comfortable resort than Duro Beach. Very quiet, and the staff were great! The kite service was amazing there as well. Always someone watching you to launch/catch your kite and making sure your ok. Compressor and lockers on the beach, grassy packing area, everything you could ask for. Restaurant was also very good, but be sure to try the lobster in the village. Fun waves on high tide and flat water on low tide. Perfect place. HIGHLY recommend.

Then spent 1 night and day at windtown on the way back in Fortaleza. This place is a little nicer than Duro beach, but the location isn't as good. It's a little rougher shore break with some messy waves outside with no flat water and its also about a 10 minute walk into town to the restaurants. It's a nicer more comfortable resort, but the location and price of Duro beach makes it a better place to stay.

GREAT vacation, would love to do it again.
Recently I stumbled on this:

Really want to go...

Thanks again guys.
