You know this is an awesome sport when...

Postby shawn13 » Wed May 15, 2013 1:21 pm

Stumbled across this article this morning. This is a great quote:

"You know this is an awesome sport when people that can do anything in the world want to spend their whole Saturday kiteboarding,"

Sergey Brin and Larry Page, Cofounders, Google
Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin were at the forefront of the kiteboarding craze. They've inspired techies across Silicon valley to hit the water, including fellow Google AdWords Product Manager Courtney Lischke. Larry, Sergey and other techies have taken lessons from Jeff Kafka, who runs wowkite.com. "You know this is an awesome sport when people that can do anything in the world want to spend their whole Saturday kiteboarding," says Kafka.

Brinn and Page have it completely twisted and I'm calling them out as week-end warriors and not true die hards of the sport. When you are worth a combined $50 billion you don't "spend your whole Saturday kiteboarding".

You spend EVERY DAY kiteboarding.

I would follow the wind 365 days a year on my private yacht if I had that kinda change in my pocket.

A whole Saturday? Really?

yep i agree.

they are addicted to money. not kitesurfing. I too would not work another day of my life if I had multiple billions. that is probably why i don't have multiple billions. I have not sacrificed my lifestyle for money.

I doubt money is what motivates those guys.

You don't get to be worth $50B or whatever by being a die hard kiter either...
Of course they are not kiting every day, unless they want to watch their $50B turn into a $25B.

And really, who could survive on just $25B?

I like your angle, but I would go back to the yacht, but add a large helicopter deck on the back with an S-76 or EC-135. The sisters Fuk-me and Fuk-yu can still be the pilots (that way you have an excuse for your wife to have them around), but this way they can drop you on any beach you come near. Since we are going overboard on this dream. :thumb:

Well, I've seen 2 more oceans I might never have seen, since I started kiting.
There's one more that's not too cold for kiting, I hope I kite in it some day!

No....the Catalina float plane would sit on my artificial reservoir retaining pond so it can slide right off the back of my yacht when needed. Right next to my 2 heli pads.

I was able to get about 10 meters from Paul Allen's (co-founder of Microsoft) yacht when it was docked here. It's 5 stories high. Calling it a yacht is an understatement. It's a freakin' SHIP. He had 2 heli pads side by side and 5 Yukon Denalis parked on the lower deck. Sick.
