I need a comfortable board, I'm a leisure freeride type of guy, i don't do tricks so I don't need lots of pop and I mostly ride in choppy waters. I would like a board that would be easy on my legs and knees. I weight 200 lbs and ride in mostly 15-18 knots winds. Any recommendations?

At your weight the Ocean Rodeo Mako King (165x44) is also a very good choice. I´m 90 kg and have both the Mako 150x40 AND the Mako King. In very choppy waters I prefer the Mako King in TT-style.

How do choppy waters affect the handling of the board, and which properties of the board make it better suited for choppy waters?
My preferences are to freeride and jump with hangtime, how will a larger board affect the aforementioned styles?

The board sizes I recommended were for the 200 lbs weight and the 15-18 knot wind conditions.
The Shinn boards are all just very smooth in choppy water and really easy on the legs.

Absolutely on the Shinn boards. I ride in crazy chop and I have a torn ACL. It's good on my knees & I don't get splash in my face.

I ride the starkites Edge. (got as a package with the kite)
Very comfortable and good in chop, nice and light etc just a good all rounder. Not the best looking board but functionally very good.

There must be a reason why the Mako boards are so rare on the second hand market, right?
Though the Shinn boards are probably very good if "oldandb..." claims they are. The Makos are very special boards and REALY needs a proper long test ride to make a sensible evaluation of it. I just love them, perfect for my "old" n "broken" legs
and my type of riding.

shinn for me:
shinn red: smooth all arounder, easy going
dundee: more performance than the red, also all arounder
monk: very high performance, fast through choppy water, less pop than others
42 wide for powered riding performance or 44 for less performance but better lightwind planing
i would go 42 wide shinn monk personally........
