What's the wind like in Toronto in June?

Postby JaZone » Mon May 20, 2013 4:57 am

I was talking to someone that said it's not so good for kiting in the summer.

I'm going to be there next month , and wanted to know if it would be worth it to bring my kite.

Typically summer is 8 - 14 knots so the larger the better. There are some amazing spots as well in a 2 hour radius of the city that can get good wind. I ride a 13m 90% of the summer.

Usually it sucks the first two weeks of June. After that look for NW at Allenwood Wasaga Beach Georgian Bay (nicest spot by far) or NE at Ashbridge's Bay in Toronto. It still domes at Lake Erie on SW but if the forecast is for West at Lake Erie better than anywhere else and the temps are cooler low 20C Lake Erie will go off nicely.

If your here for more then a week then I would bring your gear. Typical wind 12 - 18 kts so as previous rider stated ~13 m if only bringing one kite. Check out www.localkitespots.com for most of the sites around the Toronto area.

July/Aug are typically the only months where you may get skunked for a week or more at a time. As others said if you are prepared to drive up to a couple of hours there are a lot of options, Toronto itself is generally not the windiest spot.

thanks for the info guys.

Can anyone tell me about Cook's Bay , on Lake Simcoe?
Wind conditions during June/July, any easy places to launch?

I'm still pretty new to the sport so I'm looking for some beginner friendly places.

irwe, thanks, I've been looking at that site. I just thought I'd post here and try to get some feedback.

This year, the main beach we kite at in Cooks Bay is not available due to a waterworks construction project. The best locations that are beginner friendly would be Beaverton,Lagoon City and Holmes point.
They are all shallow with an easy drift launch.
