opinion and fins for 2 boards

Postby shlomis » Tue May 28, 2013 12:10 pm

hi
i am in a beginner level ...i have 2 boards, one of them is the f one style 148 very old board(2003)that lost 2 fins...is it a standart fins that i can buy at any surfing shop?

the second one is newer,f-one devil 2007 125cm, made of carrbon, very light,,,i think he is better then the first...
i would love to get your opinions about the boards (if you have any),and would love to know what kind of surfing they match?

Do you think its better to Fix the style 148 board, and start with it?
(because i think he is very heavy/compering to the deamon that made of carbon)
Or Maybe buying a newer board?
Thanks again

Totally up to you; it all depends on what your level is now and how much time you can get on the water.

If you are just beginning and can't waterstart yet than I doubt a new board is going to make that any easier; on your old big board place the remaining 2 fins on your heel-side edge and give it a try until you can ride a bit. However if you are riding upwind and having difficulty edging then a new board might do the trick, but then again you could also try that Daemon board. Sure it's going to feel weird at first and 125cm is small for your weight, but it can be done. Once you get the hang of it you can better judge what you like and dislike in a board and buy exactly what you want.

Hay
I am a Returning surfer, I surfed water ski when I was younger,so I know how to do water start, and I even surfed the last time I was at the beach with the deamon at 12-13 knots (i think) ,but couldnt sharp, and felt little unstable when surfing...(btw, I have f-One six edition 10m kite)...
And thank you very much for helping....

If you have a Bandit6 ( IMHO it is the best kite) and can afford it then get a used 2011-2012 board. It will make it easier to start.
You can also use the Style, as nherbold said, move the fins to the heel side.
After you get the hang of things and begin to go upwind then get a newer board.

At the beginning everyone feels wobbly on the board so just practice.

If you can waterstart and ride a bit I suggest you keep practicing on the bigger board until you can ride upwind and then you can try to do the same on the small board. Yes it will feel more 'unstable' as too much pressure on your front foot can make the board nosedive so you have to maintain a delicate balance.

I have ridden the 120cm Underground wave tray and I weigh about 78kg so you also can ride the 125, but it will be more comfortable to ride a somewhat bigger board; say around 132-135cm long by apprx 40cm wide
