The Ultimate Wave Kite!! 2013 North Neo review!

Postby dannybarnette » Fri May 31, 2013 12:45 am

Gear: NORTH 2013 NEO 7M, NORTH PRO SERIES 5’10’’
Conditions: Side-offshore winds 20-30mph, head high plus waves!

My first impression of the North Neo was the kite’s amazing ability to turn the power on or off by just simply sheeting in or sheeting out! The 2013 Neo has everything that you need or want in wave kite! Initially after launching the kite off the beach the immediate bar feel and responsiveness of the kite was awesome! Once out in the water and riding my first wave down the line, I was amazed at how well this kite drifted. You can park your kite, forget about it, surf the wave and the kite will just drift down the line waiting for your turning impulse on the bar! The Neo’s turning speed was no less impressive than the rest of the kite; it really pivots and turns quickly! Looping the kite down the line is easy and turning the kite when riding was effortless.

My overall experience of the Neo was great! Rarely is there is not a thing that I would change about a kite, but I would change a thing in the 2013 North Neo; It is a highly refined kite and is built for dedicated wave-slayers and entry wave riders alike! Hands down, the 2013 North Neo is THE BEST kite I have ever ridden in the waves and I would highly recommend it to any wave rider out there!

Hope this has been a help to some of you guys looking for a wave specific kite! After riding it, I had to share about this amazing wave kite!!

Cheers,
Danny

Mate totally glad you are stoked! North do indeed make a superb kite

And if I was to demo a number of wave kites the neo would be on it!

But. I do hope we have matured enough as a sport now to soften such titles as 'the best wave kite' as there is no such thing. depends on rider conditions and style of wave riding given board selection.

But as I said glad you are stoked I had the same experience when I got on my fav' kite which I won't mention as this post is about the neo.

Enjoy man.

You are very correct that I made too much of a broad and absolute statement, Thanks for your courtesy in suggesting my error.

And I'm curious, what is YOUR favorite kite? I like to hear different opinions as well!

Don't you love it when you find "your" kite? It is awesome!!!

I've been arguing this with one of my buddies for years...his attitude was that you can get used to any kite...my argument is that you want to make it easy on yourself by getting the kite that fits your riding style, or whatever you like to ride. The kite matters.

He FINALLY yielded...when upon getting a new kite landed a trick for the first time...in the first session.

Once the wind comes back I am due to check out the Neo.

Totally agree

Back in 09 I bought a North Rebel and this opened up the sport so much in just one session. The kite to your style is massive. I was coming from a Cabhrina Crossbow. Nothing wrong with the kite but once on the rebel i notice how much easier everything was. I've changed kite again now but was on the Rebel till the 2012 kite. now on Star. no where near as big a jump in learing curve. just 4 line is easier the bar pressure is less and they are alot cheaper. Plus I ride better.

Yeah man, the kite totally matters and can improve riding tremendously!! I'm stoked about his new move, that's awesome to hear! I definitely encourage you to try the Neo out in the waves, but I'm warning you, you will want to buy it after you try the kite haha!

BigPaul

Glad you've been hooked on the Rebels! And the newer Rebels are even more awesome!! 2010 was the year the Rebels drastically jumped higher than the rest in terms of performance and quality!

Thank you, unfortunately I didn't have my favorite wave kite (Neo) for that day in the waves, had to make due with the Rebel that is also great in the surf, just a different style (not as much drift).

The Neo's low end is above average in speaking that It doesn't fall out of the sky in lights winds, I was out the other day in 12 - 17 mph on a 12m (140lbs) and surfboard in the ocean and it worked well enough to ride the wave on the upwind tack during my downwinder!

Yep. I've taken it one step further and aimed for the perfect quiver. which involves 5 different kites. each glorious in their purpose and wind range.

For me no one kite type suits all wind ranges.
