Hey all

We have spent a good part of the year trying to form the Collegiate Kiteboarding Association (CKA) as a non-profit 501(c)(3) without any success. The CKA has existed over the past 10 years in various shapes and forms but it has been difficult to do business as it has never been recognized as a formal legal entity. The goal here is to structure the organization as a company so that we can i) provide event insurance for college clubs ii) offer a equipment to college riders by supplying tax write offs to potential donors, and iii) provide scholarships. It is very important to us that we remain 'not for profit' and student led.

A lawyer promised earlier this year to file the paperwork for us pro bono but is now unreachable. We have completed the paperwork for Bylaws and Articles for Incorporatation along with the signed release of the CKA name by the founder. We have also elected a board, club representatives and have a website. We need to get the ball rolling ASAP for the upcoming school year and I wanted to reach out to the community to see if anyone can help us out (and quickly!). A few of us have agreed that we would cover the costs out of our own pockets if need be, but hoped that a promise of future work would be enough to attract someone to do the work pro bono.

Are there any US lawyers out there that can help?

Regards,

Brian Walters

dont know how to help, but sounds like you have all the details taken care of. just writing to say good luck, and that i can't believe no one is on this. everyone too busy debating retarded and unnecessary techniques and gear modifications i guess.

keep shredding, you'll get it. CKA is important and kicks ass.

thanks mate!

am considering filing through LegalZoom. the Standard 501(c)3 Application costs $595.00 plus a little more for shipping. we have everything ready, ie Signed Release of name, Articles of Incorp and Bylaws. we have the money ready but what we really need is an attorney's help for advise on the filings.

CKA is important, we just need a sustainable structure.

ok we got there in the end. amazing what forking out a bit of money can do - difficult for college students.

we got our EIN number so now we need to get onto following the guidelines for attaining the non-profit status. would be really useful if we could get someone one board who is familiar with this. anyone keen?
