2012 RPM - any downsides?

Not after bad mouthing this kite, it is well known as a great kite but I've got the chance to buy a quiver so wondered if there are any downsides or things it doesn't do so well?

One thing I hate is kites that deform or become unstable in strong winds, my current Torches hold their shape all the time which I like.

Is low end good considering this is primarily a freestyle kite?

Finally I love fast kites, I fly my 6m Torch on a large bar will I like the RPMs????

The big RPMs 14 and 12m do not have good lowend and upwind ability.

On the other hand, I think the 14m rpm has great low end for its size.
But maybe not as good upwind as the smaller ones.
And it's not speedy in turning.
12m in early years has a wind range more like a 10m.
I think they "fixed" 12m power in 2012? or 2013 model?
Older 12 is great, just wants 15knots.
I haven't flown RPMs smaller than 12 but they have a good reputation.
The trailing edge issue is true, but won't be a major factor if you don't leave it on the beach parked and flapping imho.

I posted pics at the end of it showing the 2013 RPM 12m vs 2013 RPM 10m. There is a noticeable size increase compared to the previous year model. Other than that, I think the 12 goes upwind good and if you take care not to leave the trailing edge flapping in the wind, you will enjoy the kite.

however i ask you a question, will you buy again a kite that will have a broken trailing edge after 80 sessions and struggles upwind?

by the way, never left it flapping on the beach... only the time which takes to assembly the lines.

80 sessions- that's alot, 18 months kiting once every week I wouldn't be surprised to see some wear, the upwind ability or lack of doesn't sound great

No, it just takes a bit of technique. Flatten your board, depower the kite,pull the rope straight towards yourself ,out of the cleat, re cleat at the desired power level. It is a very clean, simple system. No bungy's
balls,or straps.

Depends on your style and what you want to do. I tested one last year. Good solid kite. Turns very quick...and excellent if you're into kite loops. You have to fly it though... It is not a launch and forget machine... If you ride towards the kite it won't drift as well as other kites on the market....you'll have to loop or redirect aggressively. Perfect for some riders....but not others.
