no worries,
early in the process is the best time to comment.
start keeping track of all your ingredients.
weigh the,plywood, glass, resin, etc. ..everything

the plywood is relatively heavy, but i bet 1/2 the weight is in the epoxy
lots of surface area to each ply used to create rocker.
wood soaks up lots of resin if you dont take steps to minimise.
seal the grain first, scrape off excess, minimise number of layers
a good benchmark is to weigh out your epoxy equal to the weight of the glass you are using in any lamination... after that the weight starts to pile up.

its still going to work just fine.

Okay now that the frosting (salt) is gone it looks more like a Toaster Strudel...

P.S. I'm no board builder but why put salt on the deck for traction if you're just gonna put straps on it....?

reied it yesterday, first session liquid this year !

wind, i believe 15 to 20 ( 12m, trimmed 1/3, for 205 pounds ).
short waves from the st laurent river ( short waves or big chop ? 2 feet tall ! )
compared with : rogue wave 137x42 and naish haze 138x45, same day saame wind.

tried it strapless as insert position is wrong and wind was to hight for it anyways.

gues what ? rides like a charm, i'm amazed.

it's stiff ( no flex at all, ) but rides up and down ths chop like nothing, get's even up and down the waves ( i believe 2 feets maybé 3 is not a chop anymore ) cause it's rocker and weight ( weight actually helps a lot for downwave stability i believe )

despite 20 n wind, NO spray on face at all, NONE, tracks upwind like hell, better then my 2 other board i could compare it to.

tried it both sides : 2 deferent sidecuts and, of course the snowboard like get's upwind from itselfs, the other one is nice to.

when ridden, no feel from weight, exept it does no fly off the top off waves.

so, BIG chop, 15 to 20 wind, Less spray then reg board, more up wind, smothest ride, less tired on back foot ( strap less that's why ), more fun.

and the grip works really fine, no slips.

going to make the same with 3 times 1/8 ply and carbon on top !


rode it with on fin setup, mini surf like fin in the center position.

I've done various decks over the years on windsurfers. Salt, sugar, and acrylic dust. Some builders used to use white foam dust too. For sugar, try using fine berry sugar (not icing sugar though). The finish might end up a bit to coarse, but you just have to lightly sand the finish if it is too rough, and tune it to how you like it.

If I ever find enough free time these days I'm planning to make a directional, and since I don't live in a place where I'll ever lie on it and try to surf it, I think I'll use some of my acrylic dust, so I don't have to mess around with wax which gets everything dirty. Acrylic dust comes from when they grind eyeglass lenses, and can be bought from www.fibreglasssupply.com, but if I was going to pay shipping too, I'd just go with berry sugar. Try to get a really even thin coat of resin on the board. If the resin varies too much, so will the texture.

If you spray the epoxy on and keep it runny you get a much better finish, and save money.

do you think it is stiffer than you'd like?

It looks like you've glassed the bottom (bubbles or dry spots in the weave?)

are both top and bottom glassed?

i would suggest no glass or less glass instead of carbon, which will be stiffer than what you've got now.
any weight savings will be negated by the plywood and epoxy.

again, weigh all the ingredients to get an idea if the final product is what your looking for.

It is best to use kitchen sieve to spread the salt (or sugar) evenly!

What about adding foaming additive to the hotcoat to get bubbly surface, than sanding the top skin of to expose those bubbles? Just an idea!
