 Post subject: North 2013 light wind freeride+big airs kite: Fuse or Dyno?

Hi all, I ride Rebels 7-9-12m with surfboards and twintips for waves or big airs.
At 90Kg (14 st / 198lb) I'm not the lightest rider and I'm now gearing up for the summer season B-)
I look for good upwind performance, huge boost + floaty airs and possibly without a ridiculously slow turning speed in case I manage to get little rips :cool2:
I'm considering either a Fuse 16/18m or a Dyno 15/17m from the new 2013 range.
Any advice is much appreciated!

Puertz you are a pragmatic sort of fella I'm sure there is a reason why. One could be less riders using them maybe hence the next why question follows. I'm surprised as you the Dyno was a great kite and the aspect of the fuse surely would work in bigger sizes. A similar aspect to the zephyr (2013 ) I might add.

... yeah I think the reason (maybe) is that the Fuse is ok but not outstanding!???? I'd like to be corrected on this by the way so come on North guys, tell me different! Sell it to me baby!

And the new Dyno is probably good too, but since aimed at racing none of the usual freeride guys have tried them and can't really comment either way. I'd love to be told that it is great on twin tips and directionals, not just race boards, but again, no one has said f all.

I want details, is that too difficult, am I asking too much??? :)

Heard that the Fuse boosts even more than the 2013 Rebel :o :o :o
I wonder how it performs on the bigger sizes though?? :-?

What do you mean with higher performance? Better upwind for sure as it's a race kite, but how about boosting / float / turning? :o

Ok, I will translate some of the test results:
Fuse 16 2013
- Windwindow: Fuse sits deeper in the windwindow than dyno, thus is better for unhocked
- Skill: Fuse is easier to fly
- Bar pressure: Heavier Fuse than Dyno
- Lowend: Flydoor board, 80kg, 7-8 Knots
- At 10 knots the kite is much quicker than at 7-8
- Lift, hangtime: good, if the wind is a little stronger, very good

Dyno 15 2013
- 100% race kite, for that very good
- Light build (Fuse as well)
- needs skill to trigger good lowend
- bar pressure and steering force is less than fuse
- quick turning
- lift hangtime: good, above 15knots, very good
- unhocked: pop yes, but no slack/release


hope that helps ;) I consider the guys very impartial, as they test all the kites send to them and give great ideas about it. I actually bought my first kites just relaying on their judgement without ever testing myself...

I still haven't gotten a chance to try my Dyno LTD 17 (closer to 2013 Dyno than 2012 Dyno) back to back with my 2011 18m Dyno, but that quote about "needs skill" is what I'm seeing after riding the LTD a few times. You have to pay attention when it is light or its going down! I was always amazed how the 2011 would just hang in the sky on its own.

LTD is much faster turning and better relaunch without needing to use the 5th line.

Toby had said the 18m fuse low end didn't hold up to his 2011 Dynos. Did North lose the drawings for the 2011 Dyno or something? :D
