Has anyone ever converted one of these vintage foilboards from snowboard boots and bindings to footstraps? I don't know if it is even feasible without working on the foil. I understood from hearing about these years back that you needed the stiffness of snowboard boots just to ride one of these things. It is nice you don't need boots with the current crop of foilboards, makes it easier to swim, etc..
Thanks!

Hi Rick
I don't think anyone uses snowboard boots anymore. A lot of us don't even use foot straps. But for learning I would recommend starting with footstaps on the board. There is no reason why that foil board wouldn't work without the boots.
If you are just starting, be patient, it takes a while to get the hang of it. Have fun.

I did a conversion with a rotating front strap.

Thank you Chris, I agree, I haven't seen any kitesurfing foilboards in sometime that use snowboard boots. Yet, they must have tried straps, then wakeboard boots years back before going to snowboard bindings and boots? I recall Elliot Leboe telling us about the new board in Miami in 2004 and saying something about straps not working?

Perhaps the greater depowering of today's kites factors into simply using straps these days? Do you have any thoughts on why they went in that extreme direction back in the day? Also, thanks for your input on simply converting the board. I have yet to try any foil board to date.

Thank you for your input Hawaiis. I was looking around and came across your post dealing with your novel rotating foostrap assembly. To summarize, your footstrap design allows toeside riding but doesn't significantly impact stability one way or the other when compared to your old snowboard boot system?

The snowboard boot system came straight from the Skyski/Airchair system. It was designed to be put on on the boat and drop off in the water. For kite surfing it would not be convenient to get in and out of the water. Also the boots allow jumping and flipping behind ski boats. Since I mainly use the board for low wind days when other boards would not go up wind. I find a single front strap is the best for my situation.

Hello, I don't mean to hi-jack the post, but where can someone get just the foil and shaft? I don't want the board..
