How to prevent the board to fall off with straps?

Postby pwnd550 » Mon Jun 24, 2013 4:26 am

Hello
I've recently been a bit injured when my board fell off my feet and I crashed on it, so I was wondering..
To prevent the board to fall off your feet, what do you do? Do you tighten the straps a lot, or do you raise your toes or something?

Thanks :)
Thomas

I ride with very loose straps, and I twist the front foot and pull up my toes.

Making them really tight can result in bad inkury, if you crash and one foot gets out of the strap while the other stays inside and the board rotates...

But until you know how to pop right you will crash a lot.

I can echo what Toby said. 6 months ago i hit a swell weird and dug the nose of my board into the swell. My lead leg foot came loose, but rear leg foot stayed in strap. Board twisted causing spiral fracture of the femur, then i fell over from the board stopping quickly while at speed and femur snapped completely. I'm lucky to be alive considering this happened 300m out to sea and in Mexico.

Ouch prelives! Exactly what I mean. Good to hear you made it back!

Due to boardoffs my straps are huge, and I had several crashes, where one foot went out and te other rotated inside the strap...otherwise it would have been the knee that rotated...

And I can ride in chop, jump, land etc even with those huge straps.

Get my Airstyle DVD, I explain it on there, plus many more tips!

This has been the biggest problem in my career of kiteboarding. I ended up just switching to boots. I ride with a torn ACL and my biggest fear is crashing hard and having 1 foot fall out of the strap. Boots offer me a lot more stability. When I ride in situations that are not suitable for boots I use the Liquid Force pads & straps. They are very adjustable and comfortable. I am able to tighten them enough to not fall off or dig into my feet.

the longer you ride the easier it will be for the board to stick on your feet. it's pretty difficult to keep the board on your feet when wearing neoprene bootie, because you can't feel the board as well. Don't make the straps too tight don't make them too loose, make them comfortable so you have a good connection with the board and can feel where it is.
