Iberia and kite surf equipment

Postby czezz » Fri Jun 28, 2013 10:14 am

Hello,
does anyone has experience with Iberia and travelling with quiver (kite surf equipment inside) ?
I can see on their website (http://www.iberia.com/se/luggage/special/) that 150 EUR additionally fee is required no matter is it windsurfing or kite board. Which is for me ridicules. My quiver is 140cm and weight 20 kg.
And even more - they want passengers to book space for oversized baggage 24 hours before flight.

So here is my question to anyone who was recently traveling with Iberia:
do I really need to book that space and pay 150 EUR additionally ? Or it is just regulation and they dont pay much attention to that ?

Hi Dude,

Yes that is the case. You need to book it in advance and then pay 150 Euros when checking in.

It's better than the old days where Iberia used to charge 450 for any type of board-

Thanks bud for answer.
I just called them and now they are checking do they have available space and they told me to get back in next 24h to receive confirmation.
Amazing...

btw.
lately I was traveling to Tenerife with EasyJet. It cost around additional 30 EUR only to take a quiver ... keep in mind its kinda cheep airlines.

I think it is my last time with Iberia.

Yep. I try to avoid flying with them at all costs. But sometimes there is no other option.

I'm going to brazil this summer and may well be flying with iberia. I don't understand all the baggage bullshit, it does my head in. I will only be checking one bag and should be able to keep it below 32kg, the only thing is it exceeds the dimensions limit. So basically is the same as any other passenger except it's different in shape, do you think i will get charged? thanks.

Hi Sijandy,
my advice is to avoid Iberia as much as you can. It is the most unfriendly airline for surfers.

You may be lucky to smuggle your gear as I was... but better be prepared to pay 150EUR each way.

I did it like mellot suggested but I felt really awkward saying at the check-in that I am traveling with snowboard... to Tenerife.

Good luck.
