Is ditching your concern? Here is a solution going in the right direction (I doubt it resists sea water):

I like this quad...http://xproheli.com/products/xp2-quadcopter. Been looking at this model for 2 years now. Add another toy to the list.

The reason I like this model is the way the camera is suspended from the frame. There is almost no jello in the Go pro footage. Chad johnson on youtube has the best fpv flight vids i have found with a quad. Fat shark fpv set up. Its insane!!!!!!!

ryanroberts1983, those look like some fine specs. I have not flown a copter with anything more than 4 props so I can't say for sure, but my thinking was that for high wind, to present as little frontal area as possible to reduce the energy requirements due to drag. Also, four large props are considerably more efficient than 6 or 8 smaller props with the same thrust. I know that people talk about 'redundancy' but I have not yet seen any specs for a controller that include this functionality (although I have recently seen a video of a quadcopter that is still controllable after dropping 2 of the four props/motors!).

That would be a gold plated, diamond encrusted shit with lashings of chocolate sauce and whipped cream... I am sure that you could spend that much and come out with some reasonable footage, but I have also seen great footage coming from rigs that cost considerably less than 15-20k. My rig has evolved over time but if I had to replace everything I am using right now for filming, it would cost under $2K including batteries, rc gear, fpv, gimbal and camera. I see you are talking about a 'Red Epic' camera with your setup. I'll readily admit that if your slinging $25-30K+ of gear under your rig then your going to view things a little differently, however there would only be a handful of multicopters world wide filming with cameras of this caliber and I'm quite sure that none of them are out chasing any of us on our kites. If you are planning on doing this, especially with the setup you have spec'd here then I will certainly be following your endeavors with interest.

I don't fly with all 6, just 2 at a time. Pricing really isn't that far off - mid level cinestar setups are running that price range. You get what you pay for with this stuff. Entirely a topic for multirotor forums, but none the less. 1200-1500 for a F550 with a 2 axis gimbal will fly in some decent wind with a gopro.

Good luck

15-20k for anything worth filming.... I don't want to take anything away from you Mr. Roberts cause you seriously seem like a RC pro! But PLEASE EVERYONE HERE LOOKING AT QUADS CHECK THE XP2 FROM XPRO HELI. Its a great platform, some of the best footage i have seen. It does what we want, shoot jello free video! Anyone not up to Mr. Roberts level could get this xp2 going fairly easy.

Look into it
