What if you pump a kite with helium?

Postby pwnd550 » Fri Jul 05, 2013 8:46 am

Hey, I've always wondered if you it would work to pump a kite with helium, since the kite would get in the air more easily. Would you be able to kite in lower winds? What would happen in higher winds? Etc.

This was discussed a few weeks ago. Diving the kite from 12 to 3 or 9 is not that possible when He inflated.

Friend tried it and almost went up with the kite when he pumped his 30 meter aero kite, gave him quite a scare.

The problem is that you need to be very careful about always having weight on your kite when it's on the beach. I lost a really good 15 meter Naish that way. Just floated away. Bar and lines too! Also hard to self land.

Your kiteloops will look silly, instead of powerful :o

Because you dont get the "power" landing that is rewarded with so many points (in comps) and looks awesome

Instead, the kite will lift too much UP, thus you dont get much downward speed - and will get a "silky smooth" landing (far downwind) yes, but this is for girls, right ?

So not good with helium, and the hardcore definitely dont use it, thats for sure :(

Also be careful in onshore winds, as you'll land on the beach quite often when not used to the lift...
