Kitesurfing? Is it as awesome as it looks?

Postby brettbrew » Mon Jul 08, 2013 11:44 pm

I know that as a newbie it will be a Long, exciting journey before i can do anything of 'epic' proportions kitesurfing, and I am excited to just be able to move a few yards with my kite! However, I have to ask the more experienced users of this forum? Is it as adrenalin -pumping and exhilarating as it looks? Please share any stories you have of your first time standing/first jump/first trick!

... dude, kitesurfing will change the course of life. No longer will you look around your world the same, every little rustle of a leaf on the ground or the sway of a tree in the distance will mean the same to you. Watching TV, you see a beach in the background and you forget what your watching and see if its windy, spot a kite and can tell in an instant if its kiteable, you will get new friends who understand what DOW means when they invite you to dinner (depends on wind) and your old ones think your a douche for not turning up "because its windy, that's not an excuse".

Yep, it is as epic as your imagination thinks it will be, the most frustrating and rewarding fun of your life!

I bin flying Hang gliders since 1977, and para gliders since 1990 ; the
Kite Boarding is "Almost" as Fun as both, with 1/10th the Risk .

Rush for Rush , Kiting is the Most FUN a human can have for
an acceptable amount of risk that's involved !!!...

I personally think Kit-boarding is about as dangerous as snow-skiing ; &
you Can hook up to a kite on snow skies as well as a snowboard , and that
sport is FUN also !!

You can hook-up to a kite and travel onwards to 40-50mph
over land with a three-wheeled buggy, ( the world record is 80mph +).
You can Also kite with a Big skate-board as well, (ask --plummet-- about that one) !!

So YES--- Kiting is WAY FUN , and i'm Glad i can do it with double prosthetic.

Thanks guys for all the positive vibes! I looked into watching 'upwind' but didn't see anything on a quick google search, so I will check it out more tomorrow when the eyes don't feel as heavy!

Puetz and Bille describe the passion very nicely. It's not only the exhilaration of the actual riding, but also the unique places this sport can take you to. I booked my ticket to Mada 5 minutes after watching this video, which is in my mind one of the most evocative of what kiteboarding is all about.

Hey Bille, why did you need to say 1/10 the risk? That's a downer, ain't it? ...especially coming from you. :naughty:

Kitesurfing will ruin your relationship with the wife, with the family and with your non kiting friends.
You will find yourself dropping anything and everything when the wind blows.
