That is a mistake
the picture illustrates the text "Wrong Way" - which you can see on epics home page.

Haven't read this entire thread, but...
I'm disappointed that many manufacturers have taken a short-sighted, non-nautical approach, especially when using red (international marine and aviation standard for port/left) mixed with a colour other than green (international standard for starboard/right). In the marine and aviation world, combinations such as red:right and blue:left kinda represent kiteboarders as amateurs on the water, with toys.
My suggestion is to stick with red:port/left and green:right/starboard, or failing that, at least stay away from red and green altogether.
Cheers,
James

Totally agree. At least the left side should be the same colour for every brand.

wow thank you for that. Sorry for the misunderstanding. There was a thread here before about this. I should have checked better.
I am with JS still tho. This should not be a debate really
First: Release needs to be standardized.
Second. Bar colors should be standard.
Third: Lines should be be kook proof and standardized.
This all relates to safety and it should be something kite companies could agree on.

icebird wrote:Well, I think it is obvious red should be left on a bar - I really don't understand how that can be an issue after so many years.
That said, the only time I ever look at the bar is when rigging - placing the red side to the right on the ground.
When crashing, there is no way I'm going to look at the bar, figure out the color, translate that to left or right, and then translate that to the desired kite movement. Especially since red is normally to the right when looking at the bar during rigging.
I gently pull the line I think is right, and if the kite does the wrong thing, I pull the other. Much faster and works every time, also when you can't see where the kite is, head under water. Even if I get the line wrong, pulling it hard will usually loop the kite back to somewhere neutral.
The absolut last thing I would do in a crash would be negotiating the finer details of the bar.
Untwisting lines - I look at the lines and the kite, not the bar.
I think there are still so many issues after so many years because of so many inexperienced people polluting forums with there useless experience and pointless thoughts, misguiding the whole community. You're definitly right on one point though, red should be left.

Totally agree taut!
We are wanting this since many years!
So simple.
We could IKA involved, no bars allowed with anything else than that in racing...then we might have the force for the last push...

this does have some advantages - if we are with toys how could beach acess be banned?..
I´m with icebird, also don´t put lot of attention on colours. Right now burning time in the office & not even sure what the exact colour of my bars are...
Some people seem to rely on it a lot and does not appear to be extremely complex to have it standarized, so why not? But in my view issues like missing standards for QR should take precedence by a mile. or two

a "demographic" prediction:
if this went to a vote on this forum, red on left would most likely win.
if it went to a vote on many other forums, people would reply that it doesnt matter and no one cares.
