Where are the beginner strapless "how to" videos?

Keep looking and keep getting "How to... stapless back mobe 360 revert to blind handle pass gybe" instead of just the freakin' basics... like how to water start, carve a turn re. where to put your feet.

I also struggled finding anything useful when I started strapless. The Ben Wilson Smack instructional DVD was inspirational but did not help at a beginner level. Just go figure it out for your self. You just need a little perseverance and you'll get it after a few sessions. Once you've got it, attend a wave clinic for some tips and feedback to improve your strapless riding.

Ahemm :nooo:

Just go for ANY wavebord video about basics - as there is not really any difference strapped or not, when talking basics :wink:

Only when you move on to specialized aerial tricks and so-on, there is a lot of difference - but these are the (only) ones you have found it seems.

Only one relatively basic move differs IMO, and that is the tack - as strapless it is extremely easy to tack, as you just go up in the wind, and slide both feet around standing at the front foot position with both feet - really easy also and fun.
Think you'lll be able to make it quite fast :thumb:

But as said - the basics, waterstarting, bottom turning, cutbacks, going over whitewater etc, is basically the same, strapped or strapless, so just find any basic video about wave kitesurfing :naughty:

:D Peter

Hi Peter,

Could you please can be more specific, as much as possible about strapless tack? Im struggling to do it about 1 month. Im intermediate kitesurfer about 10 years kiting, but never stand on anything strapless till now.

Thank you very much

Tomas

BTW. im riding alaya style board with small /kitesurfing/ fins - i dont know if it make any difference to regular surfboard with bigger fins.

Thanks peter... and spot on, ronnie - I should have thought of that :-?

I nearly made a tack last night... got everything pointed in the right direction, but had redirected the kite so I went floating away from the board :D total beginners luck... what fun!

ok, it is quite simple.

For starters:
Ride your SB;
Slow down, but keep a little of your edge;
Have your kite 45-50 deg - high enough to feel pull AND lift;
Now move your kite slowly into your new direction;
Start turning with the kite, just follow the kite naturally;
Don't loose too much speed, just enough that you plane;
Half way into the turn, almost downwind, put both feed on front of your SB (its the spot of your SB where it has its best buoyancy - try to stand on your board in a swimming pool);
Keep turning and complete the turn by switching your stance.

I suggest using a Costco foamie as trainer. It's super simple with it and you get the concept down in no time.

peace

the 'other' way around is called a Duck Tuck - go to the Caution Kite site and do a search. One of their guys has a pretty good video how to do it.
