More strutless love

Postby Osprey1 » Wed Jul 17, 2013 12:01 am

Just wanted to say I am loving my strutless kites especially my 13 and 17m. I'm getting more sessions than ever before and have been boosting and unhooking in what used to be lower end conditions for my strutted 14m kites. They have been especially awesome up here in Puget Sound where our summer winds are thermals and tend to be high off the water. Although some folks have been talking trash (especially in OZ) about strutless designs I think they are here to stay. I'm excited to see what the future will hold here.

I've yet to ride a bigger size..hopefully I'll be able to check it out in not too long. I could see a 13 being good.
:-)

..I agree I think it is here to stay...but like when the bows came out and people were talking shit...for some it takes longer...just see how long it took for many companies to see the advantage of the three strut designs.

They are the future....for some applications. Not all. They are great and I am totally embracing the idea. Done some mods on my Griffin TRx 17 mt and have gotten it down to about 5 or 6 knots going up wind on an Alaia. And that is a three strut.
I watched and embraced the cloud threads as Greg introduced the videos with the crazy good vibe. I love seeing how they perform. Wish there wasn't negativity to people pushing boundaries but hey, there is and that is the way it is.
I think most designers are looking at the strutless kites with pretty keen interest.

I dont understand what you write ?

You compare to your 14m2 strutted kite and say it is "lower end" compared - by this, do you mean the 13 strutless has more lowend than your typical 14's ?
Or are you talking about the 17m2 (which should have more low end no matter what I assume).

And about thermals - what is this in your spot ? High off the water ?
Does this mean more wind on land than on the water ? Or more wind up higher above the water ?

And where is the connection from thermal wind to struts or strutless ?

Sorry, you lost me there mate

Along with the simplicity of the kite, I'm liking the simplicity of the bar setup.

Agree, I'm loving my 13m Cloud. It's just unbelievable how well the kite handles. The other day was the only one out on 6 8kts onshore when a thunderstorm literally snuck up from behind. Wind shifted to sideshore to 25kts. Was overpowered but kite handled well and landed nicely with some assistance.
