Hi,
I'll get my car from the airport this evening (hopefully!).
I don't know where you can rent in Tarifa but I'd like to meet up and see if we can kite together, at least I can help you going to the car rental.

Ciao

Hi mate,

You can't in Tarifa directly, you'll need to pick it up from Algeciras (30min bus ride)

Hi Player1,
At the end I also got serious problems at the airport..... the car rental didn't accept my AMEX card and I was left too without a car.
I ended up renting from another company for much higher price grrrrrrrrrrrr

I'm staying in Tarifa center, if you're interested we can arrange something and share the car.

Ciao

Hello, looks like 2guys had problem with car rentals, hope they are still following this thread...
I am going myself with wife and baby for 1 month in October, and either I can't find these cheap deals, or the prices have doubled (I guess that they were there during the winter, so the prices might have been way lower).
So is there anything cheaper than 200€/week for this period of the year?
In any case, I'll keep in mind to have other credit card than Amex...

I think I am going to rent for just a week, to go around a bit, and hopefully when I don't have a car, it will be Poniente wind... Am I wrong in assuming that there are more chance of having Poniente wind later in the fall?

Hi!
Yes still following the thread :-)
Check Goldcar it's the cheapest rental but I think that the crazy offers ( like my 100eur for one month) are only in winter time!

Definitely bring more than Amex over there.

Btw, I wrote a report from my month over there here:

Hope it helps you.

Cheers!

Hello Daniele.
Thanks for the info, and for your repport!

Funny, we seem to have 2 things in common: our kite level when we get to Tarifa (land most of my jumps, but still struggling with air transition). And the fact that we're location independent (both my wife and I are working from home). Finally, we thought about staying in Tarifa for a mont to test that...

I was surprised to see how little you paid (or were supposed to pay) for rent and car...
But since I am going with family, in mid-season (October), the price I got (850€ for 2 bedroom flat near Los Lances Beach) seems good too. For pedestrial mobility, I wanted something on the first line, right between the old town and the newer buildings around the stadium and Mercadona.

But no crazy offer for car rental though. For a month, the best I found was a little over 400€... But it is still a better deal than what I found before checking out local companies, based on your advice. The original plan was to rent a car for the first 10 days ( I would have to return it to Algeciras: no rental office in Tarifa), and then we would be on foot...
The thing is that I have more constraints: beside taking care of our baby, I need to be connected from 8 to 5... So I would have taken the first week off, when we would visit around. And then since I'll be working most of the time, a car would just sit in the parking lot. We would then concentrate on Tarifa, and I would hopefull catch some wind in the evening, and the Week-end.
Does all that seem feasible, or am I dreaming, and given that I find a cheap enough rental car, you would advise me keep it the entire month?

Also, I thought of bringing only a 12m, but from what you've reported, I should get my 8m too (though I'll have to get it sent from home), right?
I counted on riding with Poniente wind only (not confident enough to ride offshore), but I guess that given the small windows of opportunites I'll have, I better go with everything I got...

If anyone else is reading this post and have some tips, please feel free to answer ;-)

Thanks!

Hi Sgallian,

Yes, we have good things in common :D

I strongly recommend you to keep the car also when you'll stay in Tarifa!
You'll never kite offshore, because depending on the wind (ponente, levante) there's always a perfect spot for it.
With poniente you'll kite in Tarifa, with levante you'll have to drive some 10-15 minutes and if the levante is 30+ knots, you can still kite driving to Palmone some 20 minutes away....

As you said, due to the limited time you wanna make the best out of it so better to have all your gear and a car :)

Ciao!

Things to do in tarifa other than kite? The forecast is looking terrible for this coming weekend.
