Naish Ride Original vs Gen 2?

Postby WindS4 » Tue Apr 02, 2013 7:47 pm

Hey Folks,

As I understand from some dealers, the difference between the Naish Ride generation 1 (2013) and Gen2 ('14) are the following: the Struts are moved a bit to decrease flapping, and the Bridles are slightly tweaked for better stability and sheeting. Has anyone ridden both Gen's / '13 vs '14? As you can see online and thru Ads, shops are blowing out the Model 1 for $599...Is the 2014 that much better/ worth it? Upwind ability and stability is pretty important to me.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have not ridden it yet...so I am the same gathering info like you.

I also heard it is a tad flatter, with a bit more low end. I will probably get the 10 and see from there. I used my 10 so much last year.

$600 is cheap tho. I think the discount I have seen have been 25% or so...which makes is I dunno $200-250 difference.

I guess you'd always have that problem in a way. :thumb: :thumb:
I tend to choose the newer ones.

How much bridal does the Gen 2 Ride have? The original had such long a bridal.

A lot shorter and no pulley..it has a slider pulley now. It cannot slip around the wingtip without force now. Backline is still direct.

Hi - I own 10 and 12 in the first gen - and also 6, 8 and 9 of the second gen. All in all the ride and response is very similar. Fantastic kites. It may just be the smaller sizes but the more recent model seems a touch more responsive and crisp. You will not regret buying either model. A kite with no bad habits, that glides forever!

PS I am about to sell my 10m for £400 inc postage if anyone is interested... Has only been used 6 times - I had the 10 and the 8 and they were just too close... Have now bought a 9.

I went with the old models for 599. When you get your first pinhole or tumble in the surf you won't be as scared/pissed. I really wanted the 9M but got a 10 and 8M for almost the same price as the 9M.

The 10 was my most used kite last year, and the 8 is also a super good kite. You'll be happy. I think it is your entry drug to the low strut / weight kite kites :-)
