Research has shown that smacking children is not the way to go, that's why things are so much better now....
young adults are coming through so well adjusted, youth suicide is so much less and dropping, business owners are so thrilled at the work ethic and the police cannot begin to explain how better behaved and respectful these individuals are. Its only up from here on!!
Read the stats toeside, smacking does not work and the naughty corner is the only way to go.

There's NO reset button on reality, like in the games children
play on there computer these-days .
Give the little Bastard a "Time-Out" for being Bad, and he goes in his room
to get some more Kills on his Mortal Kombat game.
It Sucks !!

I Don't believe you !!!
As you say : " look at the stats" ; Higher % of people in prison NOW , than
in 1980 per 100,000.
If the Time-Out works so well ------then WHY is that ?

Doesn't mean much those graphs, when the putting of people into prison has almost become a business.
What the US spends to keep one scumbag in prison for ONE YEAR, is enough to educate a student from day one to graduating college and still have a few bucks change.
Why I bring this up? Because it's been shown that schools that perform badly - especially elementary schools - produce more than their share of crooks. The reason? Crappy teachers who are protected by rotten unions. Put the year-in-prison cash into a "private" school for the kids . . . and end the cycle.
As for behavior modification - there's more to it than that.

To the OP . . . could be worse.
There's nothing as infuriating as saying to a parent "Get your brat of my gear!" and the parent saying "My darling isn't touching your gear" when the little shit is sitting right on top of it.
And . . . imagine if it's your lovely new motorbike . . .
Or . . . the child is 25 years old . . .

Crappy teachers...nope.
Crappy parents.
Billie I was being sarcastic. Things couldn't be worse.
I see the result of crappy parents and the school system having their hands tied behind their backs due to polices derived around such a modern approach.
If you don't believe me, come and spend some time in a high school and you will see the teachers are doing their best under less than ideal conditions. If not, shut the f*** up cause you have no idea what you are talking about.

Good job on remaining calm and you did the right thing. Moved to avoid them and informed the parent. Sadly, even after you moved and told the parent a second time, if one of them had been hurt by your gear, even if they themselves tensioned the lines and relaunched the kite, the likely resulting law suit would have probably been monumental.

Speaking as a parent who does give a shit, it is very hard to tell your child to behave at school when the school system does not punish or reward.
I am constantly on my kids case to do their homework on time and do the work to a high standard, but how do you respond when they come back with " it doesn't matter if it late as no one tells me off." and "why should I try harder as no one notices anyway."
Our beach was invaded by "travellers" they bring a whole new level to the concept of out of control children, throwing broken bottles at kites and into the sea, while the parents stood and laughed.

Back to Topic - You showed a great deal of patience. You are a way way better man than I.
After the second time of telling them off I would have kicked some sand back at them and maybe jump up and down on the moms car.

Are you familiar with modern pedagogy tautology? I am and I can tell you most of it is based on this.
I'll bite..tell me where in modern pedagogy it says that a parent should be a friend...
Billie: physical punishment was proven to have adverse effects..in many case severe adverse effects...you know with science and stuff.
To be honest it is douchey and cowardly to hit someone smaller than yourself..this holds especially for kids and women.
