PKRA News:

Lake and Boenniger Win the Slalom in Turkey

The last day of the Burn Kitesurf World Cup in Istanbul, Turkey started late to let everyone rest after an amazing concert from Duman. After a stretching session and an SUP race, the slalom got underway. Bryan Lake finished 2nd behind Bridge in the race but it was enough to secure his victory, Boenniger also finished second but it was enough to get the event Win by one pooint. Elena won the race and tied Boenniger in victories but the Boenniger was more consistent throughout the event. The event had great wind throughout the week, with amazing races. Ariel Corniel and Ozen were also rewarded for winning the Kite masters.

The day started with a stretching session for the all the racers and freestyles, followed by an SUP race while the racers were waiting for the wind to pick up. It was a great beach day with players from the Turkish soccer club Fenerbache, Webo and Meireles coming out to check the kitesurfing.

The mens ladders were setup with two semifinals and an eight man final. The first semifinal was won by Kerneur after Romain Castel who had been leading the whole way, missed the finish line. Vannucci, Smith and Cakir were the other three riders to advance. The second semifinal; Lake was leading the whole way followed by Bridge, Gruber and Biniasch.

The Final was very exciting with Oliver Bridge getting a great start and taking the lead. Right after the start Smith, Biniasch, Vannucci and Iyigun tangled with Vannucci getting disqualified and the other three riders getting a redress. Bridge was able to hold off Lake, who was on his tail the whole race. The race finished this way with Grubber getting 3rd.

The final of the women’s race was dominated by Elena Kalinina who lead the way followed by Christine Boenniger in second and with Ceylan in 3rd and Ozturk in 4th. The top girls had some great races throughout the event.

The kite masters was a great success with Ariel Corniel winning for the men, followed by Paul Serin, Oswald Smith and Johnno Scholte. On the women side it was Gisil Ozen who won, followed by Merve Ceylan and Berna Ozturk. All the riders put on a great show throughout the event with massive board offs and superpowerful handle passes.

The Burn Kitesurf World Cup in Istanbul, Turkey was a great success with some spectacular freestyle and tight racing. The venue was great for the riders with wind every day and a great beach atmosphere. All the riders and the PKRA are looking forward to returning next year for this great event.
