If you were going to Build a Raceboard, but did NOT care about actually
racing, ya only cared about going in light wind and going Up-wind in light
wind ; what would be the parameters of the board and type/length of the
fins, for a 200Lb,(91kg) rider ?

I would be using a 13M Ozone Edge ; unless Ya told me i needed something
bigger for a kite as well. Money's tight right now, but i actually have the materials
to make the board.

Bille, crazy idea, but couldn't you convert some old broken legs to a foil, skipping the board?

IMO this is exactly what the "racing" raceboards do best :thumb:

There are hardly any compromises - as those riders who goes the earliest and highest/fastest upwind (two sides of the same thing actually), will find a way to control downwind, and win the race.

So the full raceboards today also start the earliest and goes the best upwind IMO :naughty:

Just wider of course, as 70cm is a narrow box rule limiting low end...

Dont like the fullblooded raceboards myself, no, as I am into freerace which is another ballgame and lots of compromises, because you want it to be easy for jumping and turning.

But if I simply wanted to ride early, and go the best upwind as you write - not in doubt at all, a really wide big finned raceboard

The best combo I found to avoid learning riding hydrofoil surf :baby: like Carafino or better in 10Knts or so @ 86Kg (you got to become metric anyway) is todate the F-one Signature Bamboo Fish 5.10 (2013) with the 17m Cloud from BoardRiding Maui.
Still lots of fun :thumb:
My turn
The best combo I found
8 knots or so @ 75Kg is to date the North Nugget 5'0" x 21" (2013)
with the 19m Riot XR3 from Core

Lots of fun because I like to hear the sound of the board plane on the water and see the spray..
....and if I want a short "silence" I just get airborne during transitions and small jumps

Plus I really like to turn close to the beach in "one foot" of water and hit the first wave on way out

We have very steady wind at our beach and if it is SupaLight "7kn" (6-8kn max)...
...the kite can be parked and I kitesurf still having fun turning on waves....

Thanks but NO thanks ; like i told Core with there offer :
"I , (have bin / Plan to) --FLY-- , a Lot more than kite-board this year".

Floating around at thousands of feet in the air , is Still a bit more Fun
for me, than kiting !

Will you be able to switch your feet when gybing and tacking?

I thought you mentioned once before that riding strapless won't work for you. The big wide raceboards pretty much can't be ridden toeside at all, so doing a full gybe or tack where you switch your feet is your only real option. You could just sit down in the water and turn the board around, but that gets annoying.

The Sector 54 can be ridden toeside so you wouldn't have to gybe or tack with that type of design. Not sure about the Sector 60.

....
NO i Can't switch feet ; i gotta drop in the water to switch on a surfboard, Unless
the wind is 25mph +, then & Only then can i can do toe-side. Not very efficient !

I was hoping the Wide boards might be stable enough for me to walk around
on ; only way to know, is to head to San Diego and borrow one.

Thanks for the input Dave, i might of just got excited about Nothing. :(

On another note --- i Can't squat in the desert & Sh*t ether ; ankles are important
so take-care of Yours --- you-guys !!!

That would be the COOLEST THING EVER if you got hydrofoils to mount to your legs!!!

I had a Mako King for awhile. Strapless you could ride it backwards really easy and went upwind pretty well. Just shuffle a little to one side or the other a bit, no need to go toeside or switch the feet.

check out the TT racer from I think flysurfer. You could model your raceboard after that. Big retractable fin in the windward center of the board. It is not as good as a raceboard, but will deinitely take you out in lightish winds.
