North nugget pad placement?

Postby letsgoflyakite » Fri Aug 30, 2013 12:14 am

Just picked up a nugget. I have the 3 little traction pads to put on, but where? It's tail volume is going to make riding a little different from my surfboard. Soo, pads just in front of back pad, or just behind front pad ? Where is most usefull?

My small stick-on center pad is positioned exactly in between front and back main pads

The other 2 side stick-on are positioned 1 3/8" on each side and parallel the center one

Center pad widest part goes toward the tail
Side pads widest part goes toward the nose

The wide round tail of that board combined with the perfect close to tail back strap position....
.....makes that quad fin board turn on a dime....nothing quite like it

The volume of the board is very well balanced...you will have no issues compared to your surfboard

 :surf:

I have put mine in front of the back pad. For going upwind in very light winds I put my back foot there.

Thanks. Wasn't sure wether back for light wind, or up front for foot change in gybe. In foot Change is it best to keep feet in middle or nearer front of board ?

I ride it with straps. For gybing I take the back foot out and place in front of the back strap. When I am around I switch feet. If I want to do I high speed gybe I sometimes keep both feet in the straps. Coming out of the gybe I ride switch, then I take the back foot out, then I switch feet. Because the board is so wide it is very easy.

Thanks Dirk. Thats why I was asking about mini tractionpad placement. So it looks like in front of back pad/strap is better, as it's where you put your back foot for gybing? (Thats my old windsurfing wave board technique, wasn't sure if it was same for nugget, or you needed it right back as it's got such a wide tail)

Yeah, windsurfing technique, that's where I am coming from, too. However, I think with that wide tail you could do an oldschool windsurfing slam jibe putting your back foot behind the back strap and jaming it against the kick pad. Have not tried that yet, though.

I have used it with my 17m BRM Cloud which is a perfect low wind combo for me. Also 14m and 10,5m Naish Helix.
When I was using the 10,5 I could have used a TT or my small surfboard. It was fun although it was quite choppy. But a smaller board would have been better.
I think I will regularly use it with my Cloud and my 12m Naish Park which I have now.
