KSP is down?

Postby tripman » Wed Sep 04, 2013 11:21 pm

Just read an article on French magazine Stance about KSP falling appart. Heard previously that after Portugal, Canaries were also canceled. Does anyone knows something more about KSP? Is there an open crisis? seems that they have been reshuffling the roles in KSP board.

You gotta wonder why they cannot create the value for sponsors?
Donations != the way.

Sounds like the problem was the former manager, who just got replaced.
If not this year, I think next year KSP will be back, stronger than before.
Fingers crossed :thumb:

I'm sure it's tough to have a wave-based tour. Look at the history of wave-based windsurfing contests, it's been tough. They last for a few years, go away, come back as something else. That's been happening for decades. Kitesurfing (riding waves) is a small part of the sport.

The KSP should look long & hard at the AWT (American Windsurfing Tour). It's been great, successful & it's probably lower budget than the KSP as it's not as global. It's been run by top notch people that have years of experience, hell they're all on Maui & I know Sky & others probably know them personally.

You really can't easily fly around the world kitesurfing for no money unless you're rich. It's expensive as all get out. I've always wondered how they do it cuz I work my arse off & can barely afford 1 trip a year.

I hope they can pull it together, restructure it, reduce the costs, get more sponsorship or something, hopefully as it's an awesome tour.

all the luck in putting the tour up again

but something really needs to be fixed, too many events did not kick off and on those who did overall do not think it was a great display of the most progressive riding out there

TDZ makes me wish I was a better rider, KSP heats not so much

Yeah, I don´t get it.
All the Kitecompanys pushing the “wave” and “strapless” surfing with tons of dedicated boards and kites and we all buying the sh#t... That should be enough for them to sponsor a few dudes and put up 3 to 4 events every year. Isn´t that the way things work ? I bought a surfboard this year and I´m 1200 km away from the ocean. So there is my contribution !

Also todays freestyle is boring as h#ll... First I will never reach nor want to reach that level and then when you look, you mostly can´t even tell if they spin forward or backwards... nothing that you can take to the next session. With the wavecomps, at least you can dream of one day pulling that wave off. The KSP should go to places where they can add good local sponsors to increase their budget, even if the waves are not so perfect... and maybe also incorporate some kind of jumping (strapless if you like) to please the audience.... That would be great.

The Kiteboarder has an in depth story on the state of the KSP in the current issue which was just released last week (print and online). The organization has for sure experienced some growing pains this year but with new director Nico Thiede onboard and the combined support of sponsors, the industry, riders and everyday riders like you and me, we can help take this competition series to the next level. Look how far the PKRA has come since its inception. I encourage you all to help out their cause.

many opinions, and we had discussions before...but again, I think the rules should be for KITEsurf, not kiteSURF.
Surf rules for surf comps, kite rules for kite comps! I want to see Mitu Monteiro style tricks in the wave. Right now it is all about surf...why? we are kiters! don't copy them, make our own surfstyle, then we are different and could get more sponsors.

My opinion, just a jumper and not into waves, but hears and reads a lot from kiters, non kiters and media...
