See how Johnny is riding the the foil on a race board? He tacks it just the way he tacks his race board too. That is really interesting.

I do not know what might be interesting in the fact he's doing it the same way as in kiteracing.
Interesting would be to see some kind of the new tack or jibe.
BTW: he is riding a foil race board.

On the most interesting fact is his short vid made an earthquake causing tsunami in the IKA world. Tsunami is going to hit the kiteracing coast soon.
Check out 26k views in 3 days. That's the blockbuster!
Can anybody recall a kitesurfing video with a half of such popularity?

yeah, know about the length rule...and good to limit it at one point to make it affordable for everyone.
But maybe in the future when the development keeps going and prices come down?

And what about Slalom? Will it be faster due to less resistance?

he looks so relaxed, it's ridiculous.
Wonder if they could figure out how to make a foil that would fit any board.... meaning a small foil that could be mounted in the existing fin boxes.
... i know the boxes would just blow out, thats why I said " could they ever figure it out"...

would be cool

I dunno, still looks much more difficult to tack and to ride downwind than a raceboard (even Johnny is falling!). Raceboards are already too difficult for many people to ride! I'd love to try one out, but I don't see how this would make racing more fun. Probably faster around the course, but isn't having fun racing more important than being 2% faster?

In sailing, the Laser class is old technology, but the fleets are huge and it's a lot of fun to have close races with everyone on the same equipment (one design). If you look at a hydrofoil Moth or 18ft skiff, those boats are way faster than the Laser, but is it more fun to race? With those boats you spend most of your time and attention trying not to flip your boat, and the races are more spread out. Also prices are over 3x more expensive than a Laser, you have to keep buying new equipment to keep up, and things are always breaking, so the fleet sizes are small. You have to travel long distances to find people to race.

That's why I don't understand this drive for endless innovation with faster and faster boards. I'm trying to build a local raceboard fleet, but the prices are too high and I can't get anyone interested. Just pick a design and let's race! The current raceboards are fast enough :thumb:

Alex Aguera has his foils set up to fit in a standard tuttle box I believe. Position would be totally different from a fin though, so probably couldn't have a single box that could be used for a foil or a fin interchangeably.

Dave, just set up twintip races, and many will join. This way you might get more people into raceboard racing then.

race boards already foil but they do it on their fins. so much racing is light wind I don't think you want better foiling on a reach at the price of worse upwind performance in light wind to the mark.

I hope someone does figure out how to make the race board fins fully foil America's Cup style. I've been wondering if/how that could work, if there would be advantages etc. AC 72's are very wide (race boards are too) and they don't foil without enough power but they are still twin hull fast in low power, etc.

But they tilt their foil (not the rudder) for angle of attack and can retract the windward foil...

I see some benefits when traveling with a foilboard vs raceboard.
the foilboard does not need to be much bigger then a twintip. it's really annoying just to find a taxi with a raceboard 190x70cm.

i'm not sure if you need several sets of foils finns when you go to a competition with a foilboard? with a raceboard it's not unsusual to bring 2-3sets of finns = 5-7kg of weight just for all the finns! not to mention the price for 3 sets of finns!

then it seams like you need one kite less in your quiver, you don't have to bring a big 19m kite when you go foilboarding.

2 classes is enough in racing for kites, foil an twintip.
