Naish Universal Bar Lines Lengths and Setup - Please Help!!

Postby keepitchilled » Sun Sep 15, 2013 8:48 pm

Hello guys,

I purchased a Naish Park 2011 10m + Universal Bar 2011 (new) back in 2011.

Recently my lines got cut and after asking several Naish Agents I could not get an answer to my problem. I'm really hoping you can help me.

I bought a set of brand new lines as follows:
- 1 pair of Middle/Gray Lines = 17m (connected to the already existing 3m single middle line = total 20 meters)
- 1 pair of Rear/back Lines = 20m

The above setup has screwed the behaviour of my kite. The middle lines appear to be shorter (powering up the kite). I immediately realized that there are 1.35m BLUE/RED extension lines at the rear part of the kite (on which the rear lines of the bar attach to; These extensions were already there when I bought the kite from Naish)
I also remembered the RED/BLUE Extension lines attached on the Universal Bar 2011 from where we power/depower the kite).

So I then tried to connect my 20m rear lines directly onto the kite removing the BLUE/RED Extensions but this time the Rear lines were shorter than the Middle/Grey lines!

So I'm really puzzled as to what is the correct Lines setup!

There is no reference anywhere on the exact dimensions of all the line parts of the Naish Park 2011.

The photo shows a diagram of the Naish Park/Universal bar setup (the same photo as I have in the guide I received from Naish) but it does not say how long the lines need to be.

Does Anybody here know how the LINES should be setup on a NAISH Kite using the NAISH Universal bar? Does anybody know the correct dimensions for all the following lines that are part of the Naish Park 2011 setup?:
- bridle lines length
- BLUE/RED Extension lines length (these are attached to the kite)
- grey lines length,
- Rear lines length
- Single Middle line length
- length of the RED/Blue lines (attached to the Universal Bar)

With the above information perhaps I can see where I went wrong!

I hope there is at least one person who had to replace his Naish Lines on a 2011 model :)

thx

I'm getting a little confused about all these extensions, but the following guideline might help you:

All 4 lines should have equal length with the chicken loop against the bar and depower set fully powered. How you achieve that is not important. You can probably change knot positions on the leader lines.

The length of the center line below the Y is not critical. Naish 2012 moved the Y down so all lines have equal length - is said to improve steering a bit.

I'm with icebird here..little confusing, but yes the idea is to keep all lines same length.

You have had this bar for 2 years and you don't know how to set it up?

It sounds like you have the right bits anyway. One grey center line attaches directly to the little metal splitter the other attaches to the yellow safety line which goes through the splitter. Both back lines attach from the appropriate coloured leaders on your bar to those on the wing tips.

if your centre lines are too short it will depower the kite not power it up so that doesn't make sense. The 2011 park does handle badly if you depower it too much though.

SOLVED: Turns out that the middle lines and the rear lines should not be equal on the Naish 2011 bar.

The correct setup is:

REAR LINES:
a) lines that are permanently attached to the Bar (If I remember they are around 10-15cm)+
b) Leader Lines connected to the knots on the lines above (around 86cm) +
c) 20m rear lines +
d) The rear lines attached to the kite (around 1+ meters length)

MIDDLE LINES:
a) Single center line 3m +
b) Then a Y Connector with 2 Grey lines 17m +
c) Bridles

At start I did not include the Leader Lines (86cm) as I also believed that the rear and middle lines should be equal (just like any other 'normal' kite). but in fact the rear lines need to be longer than the middle as described above.

I hope this helps anyone else

The easiest way to check if you have it right is to have someone hold onto all four line ends.

To be more specific... They are holding the ends that attach to the kite. One outside line and one center line in each hand, organized from left to right just like they would attach to the kite.

Then you hold onto the bar, let the chicken loop hit the bar, let out all the depower on the cam cleat. If you are holding onto the bar keeping it straight the four lines should all be equal length.

Now under your float ends you can adjust the length of the outside lines. Simple version... Shorter makes it more advanced longer makes it more forgiving.

Hello!
Sorry to wake this topic again...

I purchased a 2011 park but can’t find how much cm are the difference between the power lines and steering lines.
Can somebody help me with that? I can’t find a email address of naish to ask them help too!

Best regards!

Just Google around, maybe you'll waste something like 5 minutes. :)
Regarding your efforts to contact Naish, they are easily reachable through all kinds of social medias available..
