Kittyhawk just up the road is a lot cheper. Plus the rooms have hot tub and grill on the deck. It's a lot more laid back also. There arnt all the stupid rules

If you are there for a week there are tons of homes available for the same price or cheaper.

Both have risky launch areas...but Real is still Real nice...
Store is badass too...nothing like grabbing a cup of joe and cruzin the goods in the morning...in my opinion it blows doors on the KH store...it seems to cater to the hard core surf and kite, where as KH sells all kinds of recreational and children kites and I felt the prices were very high (when I was there).

Both spots have good launches but a bit sketchy on NE winds. Unless something has changed, both have a coffee shop in the same building. Kitty Hawk is cheaper and just as nice. Both have huge shops (about the same size), outside showers, air compressors, and a good vibe. Kitty Hawk has less rules about launching and you launch from the water. It also has a restaurant on site. Real has some better parties if the is what your in to.
Both are great places and you would have a good stay at both.
Have fun!

One other thing to point out is that you can launch at kitty hawk just by signing a waiver. You can only launch at the real shop if you're taking a lesson or are staying at watermans

Both Real and KH have nice rooms and nice shops. I definitely prefer the launch at Real, it has a nice big grassy area and it is right by the slick. At KH, the buildings and the sea wall make for an interesting launch site, but at least they have it open to the public.

KH is also a nice place to land from Planet dws or launch for Orgasma runs.

The launch at Barton's shop is the best of the three. His shop is located in between Real and KH directly behind the Dairy Queen.
