Soft Cracks

Postby wardr77 » Mon Oct 07, 2013 6:16 pm

My kites now have soft cracks all over them, primarily the trailing edge. Is there a spray that can help remedy this? When looking at kite material it obviously has some sort of PU coating on it, just wondered if you could buy this in spray can form? Anyone know? Thanks!

Sounds like normal wear to me.

Keep an eye on the overall general condition of the kite and sell it 2 weeks before it tears apart. Then you have gotten your moneys worth out of it.

It's cosmetic. It has no effect on performance or longevity. Forget about it.

Thanks for this. Have you managed to use this successfully on your kites?

I personally don't put anything on my kites. That 303 stuff is going to be like putting Armor All or STP on. It's just the best of the 3.

I tried 303 successfully on two Cabrinha's kites generations (six kites). I did not notice any side effects, it improved canopies condition in many areas and the soft cracks diminished or disappeared in some cases. Now I switched to a different brand :). I think the product worked well for me but perhaps thin Dacron in such areas would be better instead of workarounds and additional expenses. Furthermore, I do not believe it is a cosmetic issue. Sooner or later it will be an issue (fatigue), specially flying in strong winds, but that is another topic...
