7 mile downwind race in 12 minutes = 35mph average in a straight line.

50 miles might take you 90 minutes :jump:

No problem. It depends on condition. Chop...wind strength...if it is flat I. Would take a raceboard...if it is open ocean with huge waves I would take a directional like the bullet. I would condider

50 miles is not that tough to do. i think you might be surprised at how fast you can hit 50 miles.

Here is a session where I was trying out a new TT board. I was going slow and screwing around a lot of the time too. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/361622980

Whatever board you take, you would want to spend a little time on it. Race boards take a bit of time to learn to ride competently.

Need more info for anyone to make suggestions. Is it a close to shore race or crossing. Wave state expected? Wind strength? Time till race and your exp level on what kind of boards?

Your joking right?

Averaging 35mph for 50 miles. perhaps the worlds best in perfect conditions. Not average joe in real world conditions.

Expect do double that time. 3 hours. If you come in quicker than that sweet.

Us the gear you are used to. 50miles is not that far so just go do it.

You can use ANY board, for a downwinder :thumb:

If you want to win, you are probably best off with a board that glides well, meaning a medium raceboard with smaller fins.
Can go deeper thus better VMG.

If very very choppy/waves and difficult conditions, a light wind waveboard, strapped, can also be good.

A TT no problem either, if not lightwind, but your stance is a bit awkward with one leg bent, but if you change tack often, you dont get sore/tired.

A foilboard can also be used, because it causes the least stress because of no bumps nor kitepull - but I dont know if slower than a raceboard on a downwind tack ?
At least not as easy for most....

If you are going on a deep downwinder, same tack - I would stay away from the twintip because of the odd stance and cramps can occur
