Proposed IKA Foilboard Class Rules! Rise up against this!!

Postby gmb13 » Mon Oct 14, 2013 11:09 pm

Hi Everyone,

Just read though the Proposals for the AGM. What really annoys me is the proposed rules for the Foilboard Class.

http://internationalkiteboarding.org/im ... srules.pdf

Specifically this is something I do not want to see:

B.1.1 No kite shall compete in IKA KiteFoil events unless it is series production equipment and registered with the IKA and included in the registered production equipment list.

This will once again be preventing some kiters from competing in the first 2/3 of the Season. I know a lot of great foil boarders who are sponsored by brands that do not have IKA registered Kites. This is the Foil class, so why are we imposing rules from the Formula Kiteboarding class onto it so early.

Also Rule C 1.1.1 B has been copied straight from the Formula Class:

(b) Not more than one production kite shall be registered per size range:
Large: Nominal Size of 15m or bigger Medium: Nominal Size of 11m to 15m Small: Nominal Size 11m or smaller X-Small: Nominal Size 9m and smaller

Why would we want to do this for foiling??? We need totally different kite sizes and ranges !!!! Who's bright Idea was it to just take the Kite Equipment rules 1 to 1 from the Formula Class???!!!

I was so stoked to see that after years of working on it that Foiling is becoming popular as a racing class, but after reading this I feel sick to my stomach

I hope that everyone puts pressure on their IKA National Reps to vote down the proposed rule book. The AGM is on less than 2 weeks. So get onto your Reps now!!

So is it the kite size ranges that you disagree with?

I'm happy to write our ika rep but help me to understand the issue so I can at least know what the problem is.

Probably feel a bit like I felt when I saw the IKA ISAF 2013 rulebook had "freestyle" written as a sailing class. I did a lot of work all unpaid to promote it for years and got a lot of people stoked on it building a community and a vibe. Next minute I am at Yachting New Zealand (due to email from isaf/ika) with them asking me to educate them because they were going to be running the show possibly. How many support boats per kiter?, boats need knives on board??! what for? But we read IKA /ISAF report and no special facilities different to sailing are needed - what are you talking about buffer zone?!... and so on lol

Anyway that whole affair totally killed the kite racing vibe up on the coast where I live and it has never come back.

How about the dudes south of France like 4 years ago, credit to them too - they just got on with it. wonder what they are thinking!

Another option is not to have IKA events.

You make good points Gunnar.

It is very early in the development and a lot of people will be spending a lot of money on gear that could become obsolete and development could be slowed down by forcing IKA registration on it. It may even be that different kite designs will be developed for foiling, more optimised for apparent wind.

They have been having open class racing at San Francisco.
Have they been doing the same in France?

The draft foil class rules are written on basis of CR ones (almost copied).
I'm sure that somebody responsible forgot to cancel the restrictions concerning amount of kites and their ranges. That are just non-sense and it must be a mistake.
On other hand I'm pretty sure that IKA will control the production kites idea.

ohh no! Don't let IKA destroy this class also like they have done with the racebard class with a lot of complicated rules that benefit a few riders and totaly forbid other riders to compete.

let's keep this class open and for every one.

Why rise up?!
Not posible to have dialog with birocrates.

Simply organise new asociation that will protect what you think is in interest of kite foiling.
Its fairly simple to organise and you can call it ABOWE WATER FLYING ASOCIATION.

Dont brake your had in the wall.
The world is wery plastic ,model it the way you want.

Hi Gunnar,
I fully agree with your point of view!
Last year at the worlds in la ciotat we often used kites with 5 or 6sqm. Kites of this size are not on the list. These rules have to be optimized - or better - they should be cancelled!

I will post your arguments on other relevant forums

Best regards
Mario

You are right about the cancellation.
As I thought that was a mistake and was clarified asap by Markus.
Check out the link given by Gunnar now. The rules state now:
For an IKA KiteFoil kite-board to be eligible for racing it shall comply with the rules in this section
B.1 LICENSED MANUFACTURERS Reserved for future use
B.2 HULL IDENTIFICATION Reserved for future use
B.3 KITE IDENTIFICATION Reserved for future use

All restrictions of above points have been canceled.
I will post your arguments on other relevant forums
Do not forget to post info about the amendment.
