No. Backwards.
early Rebel
-works with any pump
-works with new North pump WITH adapter
later Rebel and all other 2014 North kites
-works with any pump
-works with new North pump WITHOUT adapter
And as to changing the hoses instead of the valves... we don't design the hoses/pumps. We just buy them from a source, as I believe everyone in the industry does. I would also assume they bought 4-5 figures of pumps while only 2-3 figures of Rebels were produced with the early valve, and tweaking the design of the valve apparently wasn't overly difficult. Plus, as other people start using this source for pumps (they are really really good pumps) we would need to change the design to make them more widely compatible anyway.
And actually, I think Cabrinha is using the same source for their pumps. I've been told that the 2014 North and Cabrinha pumps are identical except for the logo and the price. The Cabrinha logo must be really expensive to print.

lol - yes, thats what I wanted to write...
I got a 2014 Cabrinha pump here... the tip is longer than the North... it is the same size as my old Best pump and new North pump WITH the adapter...
... so I wont need an adapter to use it (or any other pump) on my Rebels...

Thank you Dan, great response and explanation. I sold my old pumps with previous kites and I received new North pumps and this was the issue that you just confirmed. Also thank you for your PM and I will follow up with details as I'll need the adapters.
Very professional follow up.

Well did you buy a pump with your kite?
I did.
Although I don't know why because I have a dozen of them now all sitting there. I have enough pumps to last me the next twenty years. Figured I might as well get a matching pump for 35 bucks. Ha ha
That's why they don't come with pumps. Most of us have enough now!!!
Optional, makes sense.
