Looking to go Kite surfing with the girlfriend in December (Early to mid)

Some pre requisites:
• Needs to be some flat water as I am beginner/Intermediate and want to work on technique and hate being stuck with only huge waves!
• Hot – So that’s Europe out!
• We will be there about 10 days, ill kite 5-6 and probably half days so we need other stuff to do, she is happy chilling on the beach while I kite but then we want to do other things too.

So I am guessing somewhere in Brazil or Caribbean? She doesn’t fancy Africa of Philippines.

So any ideas on locations (not just country so I can look up flights), recommendations or “don’t got there” advice?

thanks

The best fun you can have anywhere is South Beach. They have the craziest night life and the most bang for the buck. Everithing is near and everybody speeks english(kind of;). The best flat water is only 10 minutes from there(biscayne bay) or you can kite with small waves right in south beach. Oh yeah, your girl will never get bored there.

Location: Islamorada, Florida Keys
South Beach. Great night life, crowded beaches, only @ 3 places to kite and 2 of them are crowded and may be closed due to the amount of people kiting on any specific day.

If Florida is something that sounds inviting? Try the Florida Keys. Islamorada is awesome for kiting with many shallow, flat water spots to ride. Lots of great restaurants and things to do if not kiting. Diving, snorkeling, sup, fishing, wakeboarding cable park, swim with the dolphin, etc... Key West is 1 1/2 hours to the south and Miami is a little less to the north. Night life is a bit more laid back here. More of a carribean vibe.

Not sure what you idea of hot is. We can and do get cold fronts here in the winters with great sandbars a short boat ride away and if the winds are NE thru SW, there are great spots for beginners thru pros without the use of a boat. Water temps average between mid to upper 60s to the mid 70s. Air temps can dip into the 50s for a day or 2 if a cold front is going through but jumps back to the 70s and 80s within a day or two.

As for accommodations, plenty of places rangeing from as low as $50-$75 and can go up to $500.-$600 a night.

I would say +1 for the Florida Keys.
I just had the chance to visit there and the Otherside Boardsports crew. I will certainly go back there again one day. Lot's to do if there's no wind too like SUP, snorkel, fishing, etc..

If you go, eat at MEAT at least once....the only decent beer selection we were able to find.

Would be interested to find out where you decide to go.

Plus a shark bit off a kitesurfer's lines in Perth today... see Seabreeze.com.

So I agree maybe not the best choice after all...

As a kiting holiday destination Cape Town, South Africa has to be high up on the list of choices. December is kiting season in Cape Town, with beautiful warm weather and wind all day everyday. There are tons of beaches to choose from depending on your skill level. Langebaan is flat as a pancake for fun or freeride. Muizenberg has warm water and small waves so its great for working on your technique or getting your tricks locked down. If you're feeling confident you can even try Kite Beach or Big Bay (Where the Red Bull King of the Air was held in 2013 and will be held again in 2014 http://capetown-watersports.com/red-bull-king-air-2014/ ) On top of all that, the South African currency is weak, so you can get gear, go out to eat, or explore the city while not spending a fortune.
