The irony is. Ultimately the guy is correct. If you affect the global wind patterns too much you will affect climate change. Energy in any form is not free.

But you can liken it to hairs on a dogs back. Take a little bit of wind is like taking 1 hair... it really makes no difference. Take a billions hairs.... All of a sudden you have a naked dog.....

You would never consider that making a dam has much effect on the world. But when you think about it Repositioning gazillions of tonnes of water at a higher level than sea level will affect the rotation of the earth!...

The same will occur with tidal power generation. You take some energy from the water you will affect the tidal flow.

At the end of the day its physics isn't it? The law of conservation? energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be transfered.

Hehe i sound like an oil lobbyist!.. hehehe...

Some people have asked if it was possible to swim underneath islands....that's bad too

the way i see it but im happy to be told im wrong you can effect climate to a very small degree due to changing the wind patterns but having a effect on global warming is a different mattter.

Changing an areas climate does not actually mean your causing global warming. To induce global warming you would have to be causing more heat energy to get though the atmosphere or cause less heat energy to to leave(greenhouse effect). Or to a lesser extent create/lose heat from changes of state/chemicals (burning/melting).

Changing wind patterns does not nessearilary change the global heat balance.

I would look at like a Trade-Off ; what is the lesser of the Three evils here :

* Wind energy from windmills, (which the Big ones turn slow enough
that a fit Bird can fly through Without being struck).

** Nuclear energy, (ask Japan or Russia about that one), and what about
that Spent-fuel-rod thing ?

*** Coal or Oil energy, (makes my eyes burn, & smells Bad and also makes Acid Rain).

Just an entertaining side note: There are some naturally-occurring islands that actually do float. They occur in bogs. One of our favorite kite spots is in a bog, where the islands shift around. Once it happened while a bunch of us were out riding, and an island floated onto shore right where we launch (a boat ramp), blocking our way back. The islands there consist of primarily cattails, and walking across one of these islands is really tough. If you step in the wrong spot, there's nothing there but water. Doing that while flying a kite and carrying your board is a real challenge. Not quite as much of a challenge as the poor guys who had to drag their boat across the island to get it back to the boat ramp.

If the islands are small enough and the water shallow enough, one guy can actually grab hold of a bunch of cattails, and drag it out of the way! Fun stuff. Once in a while, the islands get solid enough for small trees to grow. The islands often shift around when it blows hard after a heavy rain (lake level rises--islands float free--wind pushes them around).
