Because Mark is riding in 15-25 MPH and the Monk Forever goes upwind better than the original.
Also a good reason to choose 132X41.
He is riding in lakes and not coastal, so the wind is more on and off and more gusty, need the extra size during lulls.

How would you know with your 90+ Kilos what size would be good for him? Better you leave it to those in the same weight range...

Mark is 5' 8" and weighs 165 pounds/ 74 kilos.
I'm 5' 10" and weigh 175 pounds/ 80 kilos.
90+ kilos is 200+ pounds....I've never weighed 200 pounds in my life.
I know all the lakes Mark kites in, lived in the area most of my life.
Mark is three years younger than me.
I've owned three of the four boards I listed (and the predecessor to the Dundee) and in the sizes I listed.

I'm 5'10" and 175 lbs and I love my Monk Forever in low and high winds. Best board I've ever been on - 134 x 42 gets me going in fairly light winds and high winds (35 knots) are no issue. Good Luck!

130x40 would be perfect for you in my opinion.

On another note- why is nobody suggesting the Shinn Toyboy? That board is the same shape/material as the 2011 original Monk, the one with the Gorilla graphic (and probably the most praised board ever).
Nobody noticed?

Cheers

Thats funny, I almost went for the toyboy just because silentsports had it in the size I wanted and its essentially a monk just "made for girls" :nono: but in the end I decided to go for a size larger because I do ride light wind still.

I ride the new Monk 2014 since few weeks and the good thing is it is the same board as 2013 which I love so much! I have the monkey version and it rocks :D I got the 134x42 but I am 195lbs.

Yesterday in 20+ I rode my friend's132 Crazyfly Raptor Pro LTD. If I was looking for something better than this I would be looking for a bit more snap and maybe a bit more bite/carve through the crazy chop, waves... It has a damp feel though which is nice through chop. Maybe the fins need to be a tad bigger... Size felt about right...

+2 for 74 kg / 130x40 Monk.
I'm 80kg and use 132/41, but can also get away with 130 when powered..
130/40 would be your stock board with the widest sweet spot at 74kg.

The other can of worms with these things is fin size...
Every Monk of 132 and below is supplied with 43mm fins... I believe this is largely a good call, but for me personally, I use 53's as my smallest fin as I do like a more locked in feel. I think it helps in top end control, and much more stable in heavy carves, yet it's harder to switch stance.

No right or wrong answer here, just wanted everyone to know that you can radically change how the board feels by switching between 43mm and 53mm fins. You can even mix and match them on the boards.
