Ozone Catalyst for Waves

I currently ride 2012 Ozone Reo's 8-12m with my 12m being my go to kite. I'm 6'2 230 so the 12m is my 20-24mph kite of choice. I also have a Zephyr for light wind. I primarily ride waves and am considering getting a 14M Catalyst for the 15-20mph range as the Zephyr is too slow for me for wave riding. Any input on the Catalyst in the surf specifically the 14m would be much appreciated. Any input on the low end would be great too.

What zephyr do you have, year wise?

I have owned the 14m cat. Thing is it is still too slow for wave riding. I reckon my 2013 zephyr drifts better believe it or not. I have had some great down the line surf sessions on the zephyr, just gotta slow it all down, it get more smooth and carvy.

You could get the 14m cat and expect to shine more in the waves. But thing is, it is too slow in my mind to make any appreciable difference. Plus the zephyr is a far superior wing in my opinion in all attributes.

Although some good reports coming from the 2014 cat, it seems they may have refined the power delivery my biggest bug bear of this kite. I would expect the genius rob is, he would surely know this needed improving. Hopefully is flies like an ozone kite now. by the way I get raped on my local forum talking like this, some serious born again ozone riders on there. Lol.

I rode the 2014 Reo today, I way way preferred it to the previous models.
It has a much better low end, I always found the Reo's had very little power in the lower winds...not any more.

Thanks Gents, westozzy I have a 2013 Zephyr. Admittedly I have not given it its fair shack going down wind in the surf. I've usually resigned myself to kiteing in place when I use it in the light stuff with a big TT. You are the second person to suggest it will turn faster and sit back in the window and drift down the line welI. I will give it a fair shake in the waves to see what you guys are taughting it can do. I consdiered the shape to be like the Edge which does not drift for s#%t in the surf. I also am hearing good feedback on the 2014 REO having more low end power and overall the power of a kite 1M bigger then its size. I have a 2014 12M REO I can demo so gotta check it out for sure! Yes it does have some edge, but too much. and the mini bridal has an effect I reckon.

Do you have it on the shortest knot? Hey it's a big kite for sure, but I'm just saying you might not get much more out of a 14m cat. Still be slowish. Crew like the fat lady in the surf, faster, lower aspect..?

Only one connection to bridal, you don't have other options. Adjust under bar float. We alway stride them shortest knot. Different kite. A little crazy unhooking though, think I need to go back to the middle for when unhooking or just man up and edge harder.

& if the ozone bar has webbing adjusting straps, just above the bar floats instead of knots, how far should i pull these in??

I don't think you need a 14m. 12 to 17 is a good jump in light wind.

Just learn how to fly your zep in the waves.

Is it possible? yes.

will it be exactly the same as flying a 12m or smaller? No.

Once you open your mind to the possibilities of light wind kiting then you will have great fun.
