Caberete - Where to stay?

Postby waterlooalex » Sat Oct 26, 2013 11:15 pm

I'm planning a trip to Cabarete with a few friends, can anyone recommend where to stay? I'm thinking we'll avoid all inclusive resorts.

Is KiteCamp any good? http://www.kitecamp.com/lodging/kitecamp-cabarete.html

Key things i'd look for:
- good location (near the beaches)
- a good place to meet other people (kiters, or other)
- stuff to do (restaurant, pool, etc?)

eXtreme is right on kite beach, with a popular restaurant, circus school, yoga studio, crossfit gym and a Spanish school all onsite .

I checked into Extreme Hotel last year for a two week stay. It was a bit of a disorganized shit show and the hotel was overall not very well maintained. My bed sucked too.

By the second day I moved to the Hotel Aqualina http://www.agualina.com a few hundred feet down the road and it was 100 times nicer. Well maintained, CLEAN, and really nice helpful staff. And far better feeling of security. It is right on Kite Beach too and has a nice pool and area to clean and organize your kites etc.

I made a deal with the front desk for two weeks that was only a bit more than Extreme would have cost. REALLY well worth it.

I still went to Extreme's bar/restaurant for breakfast which was good.

A lot of cool, interesting people go to "Ali's Surf Camp"http://www.alissurfcamp.com also.

It is not on the beach but the vibe is worth it to some and it is one of the least expensive places to stay in Cabarete. I went there for dinner many times and the dinner is AWESOME!

FWIW...

We stayed at Kite Beach Hotel while we were there! It's in the middle of the beach, and the standard is good. They have a huge lawn for storing, packing and washing your kite equipment, and they even offer kite storage. Their restaurant is also a great meeting spot, and it's right next to the Extreme Hotel and Chichigua bar.

Check out kiteferie.com - I've written about kiting and visiting Cabarete :)

I stayed at Kite Beach Hotel and hung out at Extreme.

My understanding is that the Kite Beach Hotel is slightly more expensive but much nicer accommodations. They are about 100 yards apart from each other. It wasn't super luxurious but nicer than the rooms I saw at the other hotels and posadas on kite beach.

Extreme hotel definitely has the better happy hour with some cool regulars. Also Extreme has better workout classes and gym if thats important to you. When I go back, I'll probably do the same (Kite Beach Hotel and hang at Extreme). If I'm bringing my wife, I may find a better house rental situation and still hang at extreme hotel bar and pay for the workout classes.

Have fun. Anywhere you stay will be awesome.

Many nice places in Cabarete!

I stayed in Millenium. Beautiful rooms not that expensive.
All inclusive can be nice too...Wyndham Tangerine can be pretty cheap too.
Food is decent and there is something going on and people to meet.

Nice apartments all over.

First think where you prefer to stay...center, Bozo or Kite Beach.
All have pro and cons
