Advice on a split board, Nobile or FS

Postby Adventure Logs » Tue Oct 29, 2013 5:16 am

Preping for a month long trip to Sri Lanka in January and looking to buy a split board to take with. I don't think the smaller size is worth the $ since you can easily take a 140 with you without being charged but the larger one has my interest for LW days and my GF that is starting out. Also wouldn't be too bad for traveling since we'll be touring the island on motorcycles. Anyways, anyone have any experience with either? Impressions? How about the non-split versions the FlyDoor and Flying Carpet? I use Flysurfer kites so would like to stay with the same brand but if the Carpet has any advantages I would get that instead. Thanks

I dont believe any one has them yet as they are just becoming available, we have an order in with Nobile and should be recieving them in a week. We will be testing them and will report back :) Nobile also has a split surf board which should be interesting to try.

Sounds like you are keen to save some money. I'd go for RL's two part. Much cheaper. Not such a fancy construction but absolutely does the job.

I'm really just looking between the flysurfer or nobile. Was hoping someone had hands on experience with the solid board counterparts and their opinion on which is best. Thanks

Hey Jason, you sure do get around Bro!

Look, the FS is made in the Nobile factory. Nobile saw that FS were selling a ton of their "doors" and as a result brought out their Flying Carpet.
I'm not sure who came up with the details on the split on the boards but it will have been engineered by the Nobile guys.

Bottom line is choose whichever one you'll get the best dealer service from in your travels around.

Oh, ... and come back to SA, we have some waves with your name on them :D

Hi, I own a Flying Carpet and I'm very happy with it but, IMO; it's not a real beginner board, it's a lightwind weapon for . A beginner will for sure enjoy the big size but he will also suffer the "squared" shape, the sharp corners and the overall pression the Carpet applies on his/her legs.

Hey Shaun, how goes it. Would love to visit Durban again but doesn't look like that's gonna be in the cards anytime soon.

I'm wondering which system is gonna work between between the two splits. Looks like nobile's is gonna be a little bit heavier and might get jammed with sand but the FS ones I see they always have a little bit difficulty getting the second peg in.

Most likely I will go Flysurfer just to stick with the same brand and that 5th fin sounds helpful. Still waiting on some reviews on either.
