Toby is 100% right here. And I for one need to clean my karma too. And Many of these kids just like my friend most choose to do what they do. But the pressure in these poor areas is big. And you know how we all were when we were young. Doing what our friends do. I know Lest pretty good he is not perfect but none of us are. Just a shame it had to come to this.

I didn't get the feeling that he feels everybody who kites does recreational drugs and that all of us are part of the problem down there. I think it's more he's trying to say that if we go down there to vacation or live to please not buy drugs. Say no to drugs and enjoy the town.
If we buy or do drugs down there it keeps the thugs in business. It creates a "seedy" element.
I think he's trying to say kite and stay legal. Have a beer...
Yes you understood me. Its our world we need to take better care of it and work on our Karma!

It was that line to which I had taken initial exception as well........ the poster is however obviously hurting at the loss of a friend, his initial choice of words was poor but if you read though the thread I believe his point now is clearer. It seems that someone may have paid the ultimate price for their poor life choices. In truth however most of us have made errors of judgement in our youth but have been luckier than he. RIP Lestiano.

it seems obvious he means "blame everyone here" NOT as in "everyone in kiteforum" or "everyone in cumbuco"
Rather the meaning is "here" as in "in this instance," "in this case," etc.
because there is plenty of bad and blame to go around in things like this.
mistakes by many, those who seek a buzz, a quick profit when there is little other work they can find, the true criminals, and those who turn a blind eye to the reason they are paying $$ for a bag of crappy drugs to have "fun" with.
There is no safe drug when the people involved are not safe.
Bad people get the money from drugs.
Sure some poor people can buy food by selling a little bit.
It's not their only option.
Some people think they can fly in for a week or a season and leave and who cares, they never go back, never get caught, have a buzz....
But it's destructive.
It seems everyone knows someone whose life has been changed in a bad way -or ended- by drugs, whether they got sent to jail, got addicted, went broke, got shot.
I know people whose lives suck because of drugs.
I know people who took decades, after jail and shame, to get over youthful mistakes.
And their lives could be much better.
Yes, and some, their lives just end.
I hate drugs.
Really hate them.
RIP

I am sorry about your friends loss.
Do not blame yourself or other kiters. The only people to blame are government for not legalization and the horrible guy who did that to your friend.
I do not condone drugs. But the fact is that legalization is the #1 harm reduction measure and also allows for personal choice, safety and freedom.

So what happened? Everyone is eluding to something that only a few know.
It is a tragedy either way, of course. He seems like a very well liked kiter who did a lot to promote the sport in Cumbuco. Very sorry to hear this news and feel awful for his friends and family. As a successful entrepreneur in the local market, I'm sure he was admired and looked up to by many.
