Men,
There are 4 stages to competence.
Unconscious incompetence
The individual does not understand or know how to do something and does not necessarily recognize the deficit. They may deny the usefulness of the skill. The individual must recognise their own incompetence, and the value of the new skill, before moving on to the next stage.[2] The length of time an individual spends in this stage depends on the strength of the stimulus to learn.[3]
Conscious incompetence.
Though the individual does not understand or know how to do something, he or she does recognize the deficit, as well as the value of a new skill in addressing the deficit. The making of mistakes can be integral to the learning process at this stage.[4]
Conscious competence
The individual understands or knows how to do something. However, demonstrating the skill or knowledge requires concentration. It may be broken down into steps, and there is heavy conscious involvement in executing the new skill.[3]
Unconscious competence
The individual has had so much practice with a skill that it has become "second nature" and can be performed easily. As a result, the skill can be performed while executing another task. The individual may be able to teach it to others, depending upon how and when it was learned.
These individuals are simply at the stage of Unconscious incompetence. We were all at this point at the start of our kiting experience. Most of us on the forum at the Unconscious competence stage. What is obviously dangerous to us is not to the Unconscious incompetence individual.
It is your job to gently show these individuals of their unconscious incompetence and usher them into the conscious incompetence stage.

There is also that other ladder that doesn't lead to any sort of competence. The one with only one step that is called Stupid incompetence...

Then, you'd be stopping every single person at our beach - except for me.
Wow... sounds like your in kook central.
Here the only people with tt's and board leashes are the dudes learning.
My spot is also self policing too which is good. As the wind increases so does the swell. A 30 knot day presents 4-6m swells and massive waves. The newbies shit their pants at the sight of the raging ocean and don't go out.

looks like a 60 foot jump to me. You can see where he goes up about 15 feet and then gets on the elevator and gets taken up another 45. Dangerous conditions for a noob because they don't yet have an intuitive feeling for how gusty it is. You can even see the gust he is riding run catspaws across the water.

That looks like a bloody sketchy launch site for a beginner...! Had someone killed here at a similar looking spot.

You're welcome to come and educate the kooks here. Good luck with that
Sounds like the newbies have a clue. Good for them!

They got small penises then... all that wind, all that glassy water and those were the best they could do?
