Land board wheels not rotating smoothly

Postby kitewise » Sun Nov 17, 2013 4:03 pm

My MBS land board wheels are starting to not turn freely. I suspect that the bearing need to be lubricated? Anybody have any tips they can share?
Thanks,
Phil

Do you ride near saltwater? I've seen bearings lock up overnight riding on beaches. Less common further away from the coast.

The bearings are supposedly sealed for life although they allow things like water dirt etc to get inside and cause trouble.

Option 1 Buy new bearings even have a extra set that you put in the kite bag or board bag. (very handy if going on trips to the coast that don't have kite shops.

Option 2 you could try this product the only one i've seen that uses an actual metal needle to get into very tight areas. https://www.sfrcorp.com/product/protect ... ion-oiler/

Option 3 I've heard of people taking the bearings out and soaking them in a motoroil bath overnight also heard they did this even if the bearings weren't locked up but did it any way cause they were in a salt water zone. I think its kinda messy and wouldn't problably do that myself bearings are relatively cheap.

if you kite at the beach buy stainless bearings. standard bearings do not last long at all.

make sure you hose you bearings down after each session at the beach.

Hi,
my suggestion is to change bearing as soon as possible. I had the same problem and wait a couple of sessions before do it. Results i fuc**ed up an hub.

@plummet: stainless is a solution but they are really expensive. I bought 2 sets of bearings at half the price of a stainless one. I just rinse always my mtb and add some oil or crc. Do you want a hub to repair? I can give my old one to Daniel and you can keep it.

Ebay those stainless bearings. they are cheap. Make sure they also have stainless internals. My stainless bearings last about 1 year. Compared to 3-4 sessions of the standard bearings.

PS my beach is wet and every time i landboard I drench the bearings in salt water.
