So DImitri - is what you're saying that the success of that ride in the video comes down to it being a smaller SUP? Like how big?
Hello markchatwin, if you are interested to surf the waves then yes a surf board will be great but in such light wind even a surf board could not work. So the 8'5" SUP was the perfect board for surfing these waves. You could go with a 9'0" SUP but that will be the biggest you want to go if you want to be able to surf the waves. Now if you don't care and just want to go back and forth then go with an 11'0" SUP or even better a race board with 3 big fins so it creates apparent wind. But once again you need to choose your gear very carefully in order to perform in these extremely light wind conditions. And of course you need to know what you are doing because it's not that easy.

Earlier this year while my wife and I were in Hatteras, Dimitri ask me to demo his kites... all of them for a week, but we never had the chance to fly the Infinity V3 as it was too windy that week. Anyhow, we bought 5 Renegades a month later... We love our new kites. We have a 5m Prototype 3G, 7m 3G11, 9m, 11m, and 13m Ltd 4G. My wife fell in love with the 5m and had to have it
Next week are going to Provo and I ask Dimitri if there is someone down there I can contact to demo the Infinity V3 and the Oxygen board, next thing I know Kristy is confirming my address and sending me the infinity V3 to use for a week on Vacation in a place that is notorious for light to moderate winds.... He wanted to send me the Oxygen as well but I just cannot fit it on the plane... he has even put me in contact with an instructor down there that can show us the best spots to kite.
Every contact I have had with Dimitri, Helen and Kristy has been extremely pleasant and virtually instant. Not only do we love our kites but I feel very confident that if something happened the EPIC team would do everything they could to get us back on the water.

Thanks Dimitri, Helen and Kristy. You Rock!

Sincerely
Pete

and for all that don't know Pete… he has specific expectations and is not pleased with sub par quality or service.

I've had the same experience with Dimitri. He's even offered to open the door to his home when I stayed there. And then escorted us to some amazing spots and I didn't even need to bring kites because I spent the whole week demoing all of his!

impressive - YES

Oh yes that is very true, and if I am not happy, I am just as willing to share that experience as well. :D

It's nice to see when you have a team that wants to make your kiting experience better! I for one am very impressed with how Dimitri and crew have gone to great lengths to get their gear into peoples hands. The man has volunteered to send down some 4G kites for me to demo this winter season. What other brand does that?
Pete how do you find the 13m Renegade? Dimitri recommends that kite instead of making a 13m Judge. I do have to admit that it has to be the nicest looking kite on the market! Have fun on that trip Pete!

James - The Renegade 13M V2 is just smooth, powerful and easy, turns fast and will not stall.
Drifts very well and if you do manage to drop it, relaunch is automatic.
For anything other than very light wind that is better suited to mountain biking, it gets the job done.

And I agree with Kite Culture, Pete has turned from Doubting Thomas into Peter the Evangelist, which says a lot.

Thanks James
I want to say I like all the kites equally but, my favorite kite of the bunch is the 9m, our 13m is 2nd and still very fun to fly, it gets me out and going up wind starting in about 11 knots with a 135cm x 41cm board, with a light wind board I could start in 9 knots.
It is my favorite larger kite I've used... has all the awesome Renegade characteristics
light to moderate bar pressure
relaunch on command
on the freestyle settings it jumps great
on the wave settings it drifts great
really nice constant power through the turns.

I'm trying to think of something negative to say... I took the stupid ball out of the fill valve... if I ever have to replace a valve I will replace it with the new airlock 2 valve... sometimes when packing it away the one pump hose of the center strut gets kinked and won't let the air out till you adjust it....
That's all I got.

Pete

Really sorry to spoil your Dimitri's arse-kissing party boys, but you might want to keep an eye on your Renegades and - possibly - Infinitys when pumping up.

During my last trip I had a close call with my R13 - pumped it up, went riding very far from shore for a few hours, came back for a break and upon landing the kite it deflated.

Long story short - outer end of the leading edge bladder wasn't properly secured at the factory so eventually it folded into the leading edge and popped.

_K5_2073.jpg
This isn't something easy to spot visually, since Renegade's leading edge tips are very thin.

So just a friendly suggestion - make sure your leading edge bladder's ends are properly secured and make it a habit to inspect leading edge ends by hand after pumping up your kites, just to make sure there's some bladder in it - you never know with these brands who aren't interested in cutting corners like others bad brands do...

Cheers boys! :bye:

If you have not noticed an empty wing tip for eleven and a half months of riding that kite, then I think YOU need to pay closer attention to your gear.
The rest of us normal people do fine with our Epic gear and our other branded gear as well.
In all the years I've been kiting, I've never had the problems you and a few other names we all know have, with any gear....new... used....any brand.
Alexey, you're a joke.

OnB,

Dimitri keeps telling me that the Judge 11m is the biggest size and that the Renegade 13m would be the next kite to use. I for one am not a big fan of Delta style kites and prefer a more C inspired kite to ride! Not that the Renegades aren't great kites ( I haven't tried one so I wouldn't know) but I have been asking if he had plans in making a 13m Judge. I am hoping to get a Judge kite in the very near future so that I can compare it to my other kites. Ultimately I want to see if I like them more than what I am riding. Yeah I admit that Alex is right in that I have become an Epic fan but I have been very impressed with them. I have no issues in showing some love for this company but at the end of the day I want to ride what's best for me! I will not switch out any kite that I like to just make someone happy.... so if the judge kites aren't better than what I am riding I will stick with the brands I like! I also plan on trying the regular screamers but it is hard for me to let go of the more C style kites (and it isn't that I am some stellar rider.... I am far from great and below average).

Pete,

Thanks for the quick review and they do seem like nice kites! I will have to give the 13m renegade a go some time. I for one hope that the bigger valves show up sooner than later! Have you tried the screamers or the judge kites?

James
