Sturdy Gopro mounts

I bought a suction cup, headstrap and floaty to film myself kitesurf. Don't know if the adhesive pads that came along with the camera are sufficient to have as a board mount. I really want to have a peace of mind when kitesurfing with my gopro. Should I instead get a front helmet mount(I know it can get loose using a headstrap) and surfboard mount (or just keep the floaty and it's adhesive anchors and tethers)? Where do you tie your gopro to when wearing it on the head and on the board? I really don't want to lose my gopro!

Hi there, my helmet had vent holes in the top of it, I tied a piece of old kite line from the camera through the top of the helmet.
on the board, again when using a kiteline as a leash, i tied the line off on one of the footstraps bolts.

I used a kite line as a leash as if you use the end of the line, the bit with the hole sewn into it, you can put the foot strap bolt through the hole

failing that you can just buy a surfboard mount which has a seperate leash pad.

Should I get the surfboard mounts or are the adhesive mounts that came with the camera big enough?

I would personaly buy the surfboard mounts, they come with a sticky leash pad so if the camera does get ripped off it you won't lose it due to the leash. you can get 2 for £20 which is a damn sight cheaper than a new camera. for extra peace of mind you could get a floaty back door as well

A friend's popped off his board using the regular adhesive mount that comes with the camera. I would guess it depends a lot on the conditions you ride in, here it is very choppy which means lots of vibration on the board.

I wouldn't trust the suction cup at all for this, it sticks pretty hard but it's not meant to take any kind of force so it would pop right off. I've used it on a kayak in the surf, and it was kind of annoying.

I would say the best bet for a board mount would be a fin mount which actually attaches to the screws of your fins. Camrig has them and they're kind of expensive but they are a little more foolproof than the adhesives. http://camrig.com/fin-mount-gopro/gopro-hero3-fin-mount

Thanks for the help. Besides the Bopper and the Gopole Evo, what other monopods(poles) are floatable? Also, what other pole (preferably a retractable pole) can float with the backdoor floaty on the gopro hero3?

Hey, didn't realise the Gopole Evo floated your camera and accessories, think I'll have to Buy one now. I was thinking about attacing it on a lanyard to a D ring on the harness and just using it when needed, to save having it flapping around your wrist all the time??

One other thing I've seen mentioned is that the floaty backdoor is not rated for flotation of anything other than the camera and the case, so any additional weight from mounts or other attachments would sink it, unless they had additional buoyancy as well.

I thought of buying the gopole evo but it isn't retractable and won't fit in a regular backpack.

I'm thinking about building my own GoPro retractable pole. What is the ideal distance from body to shoot? I will also have the camera raised off the pole so that most of the pole is not in view.
