Difference Rebel 2012 vs. 2014

Postby 1968 » Tue Dec 03, 2013 6:29 pm

Hi,

Has anybody compared the 2012 vs 2014 Rebel in regards of Freeride and wave? What are the main differences in jumping, gust handling, stability...

Thanks,
K.

I have owned Rebels for the past 4 years.
My 2014's are definitely the best yet.
10 years kiting, now basically freeride on a surfboard in smaller waves and swell. Seldom get the chance to go in real surf.
Also I don't unhook.
I own a 7m and a 9m. They have better low end than 2012 and 2013.
They seem to turn with less bar input or is it just my imagination.
Don't know about the "drift" as I tend to throw the kite through the turn and follow, ie. the power is always on.
The power is very smooth and the depower takes very little sheet out of the bar.
Riding strapless, it never jerks me off the board.
Nothing like a 2 hour session with a big smile and never having to look at the kite.
Getting used to the larger inflation valve, pumps up fast.
And I pay for my kites!
About 15 sessions on the 7m and 3 on the 9m.
Overall, extremely pleased with 2014's.

How do you compare 2013 VS 2012 based on your experience?

Okay, the difference between 2012 and 2013 Rebels.
Very, very little. I tend to push the low end and if pressured I would say the 2013 has slightly less low end power than the 2012. I had plenty of power both years by subtle changes in my technique.
I would sine the kite once plus bear of for speed which increases apparent wind which produces power. Both years were great for strapless riding as the kites just soaked up any gusts.
My neighbor has both 2012 and 2013 rebels and he says he cant' tell any difference.
He gets in about 80 sessions per year.

I agree with what was said.
2012-2013 : i would say 2013 is less powerfull , and logically, worse low end (but better high wind range!)
2013-2014 : really same power (even if it was said that 2014 were a bit more powerfull). I really saw now difference in the power (i had the opportunity to compare them the same day, with same size), but the thing really new is the way they turn! Incredibly quick! These day i tested the 12 m2 of the 2 years, i really had the feeling to get a 9 or a 10 in my hands!
I don t like marketing, but if i had the money, i would get all my rebel in 2014!
