Is lake Simcoe frozen yet?

Postby JaZone » Sun Dec 15, 2013 1:30 am

I'm hoping to do some snowkiting in a couple of weeks and just wanted to know what the conditions are like.

The bottom of Cook's bay is now frozen. There is a group that may try it out this afternoon at Walter's Drive. I would recommend wearing a kayak PFD or some type of flotation to be on the safe side and stay away from any river inlets.

I'm interested if anyone got out on Simcoe yesterday...this morning's Cook's Bay Ice Fishing Report is looking good, only if the ice holds out the coming warm spell and rain forecast for later this week. It is time to get back out!

Looking to Carpool from Toronto, downtown, if anyone is interested.

No wind yesterday, temps will be cooler north of Toronto this week so it should be good next weekend.
Also check www.thechickenloop.com and www.localkitespots.com for local info.

Oh I hope that the lake is good to go this weekend! What about Bass Lake - it's usually a few degrees colder up there...anyone have any info?

Tomorrow is the day! Going up to the lake to ride the snow (or crud) for the first time this year...will hope to get a video cut shortly after. Might just bypass Lake Simcoe and head a little further north for better snow prospects...enjoy your winter..

Good south wind for Saturday (20 kts gust 38).
Best spots Cook's bay and Beaverton.
Hard packed with icy patches.
Snow in the forecast Saturday night!
