Material for Grabrails

Hi guys,

I found out what Flysurfer uses for its Grabrails.
Foam Pad = Zellkautschuk
It is HY/EPDM hard (HY/EPDM fest in German)

I will see if I can find it somewhere to produce some custom grabrails out of it.

cool! A bit higher would be great...hard to grab for some tricks like flips

How high should it be (from the top sheet in 90 degree angle)?
How long - the longer the better?
And I assume 45 degree angle to the board edge and angled on the beginning/end.

What about the fin grabs - higher too?

I found a supplier that would sell me 2 m2 (5cm high) for 400 Euros (no smaller quantity available Im afraid). That would be tons of custom grabrails. (around 100-200).
Only question is, if I find someone with CNC processing for it (Material can be CNC processed)

Together with JB Weld glue a blast I guess!

I wonder how far Frederik is with the fiberglass handle.

I am still struggling with my compound airplane alloy/JB Weld compounds - not easy to bend the alloy right!

where you grab it 90°.
from the board's edge about 45°.

It should be about 1 cm higher than the FB one. Maybe 2.5 cm? 3?

Length is fine.

On tips not needed more than the FB ones.

As I have a flysurfer Radical S 2011 too, I will make some for that board.

Do you already know where you will be kiting first half of this year?

I have to work in Spain near Malaga this end of the year, so I cant come to Brazil

I looked at my grab rail closer today...if you keep the 45° going instead cutting it on top it will have the perfect height. It will double the FS one. Tried some rail flips today and many slipped because it is too low...higher will make it much easier!

Toby, can you give some coments to the draft attached?

Please give me your ideal height (inside edge 2,5cm?).
Thats the most important, rest is standard measures.

longer is always better than shorter

Make it 3cm on inside. If people want it less high, they can always cut it down...

Option 3 looks best, because if too thin on top it will be too soft and hard to grab.

Got my hands on a piece of HY/EPCM hard, it is 22mm high, but its only a small piece, maybe enough for 3-4 rails.

So I really need to see how I can do this...

Maybe I need to find one that is 5cm high.. hard to get, seriously - anybody here who has a source???

Anyhow, I will let you know, maybe I glue 2 pieces together with JD Weld. the one from the edge and the one on top.

However, you get one for sure, send me your address by email (I will take 1-2 weeks to make those grabrails, I am also working on alloy compound ones with a somewhat nicer cover instead of grip tape
